Module 3- MIND MAPPING:

CHALLENGE

I’ve been struggling to remember key information, useful ideas and important facts. Through the use
of short, memorable keywords, Mind Maps chunk information into core themes, which trigger
connections in the brain to help remember more. To recall specific pieces of information in the Mind
Map, make them stand out using colour. Changing the colour of the branches links the visual with
the logical and creates mental shortcuts to boost ones memory. They’re processed instantly by the
brain, so now I’m more likely to remember them than long sentences. Personalising your Mind Maps
with images and colours strengthens your connection with its content to help you remember every
detail.

WHAT IS MIND MAPPING?

A mind map is a visual tool used to organize information graphically. It is hierarchical and represents
relationships among parts of the whole. A mind map usually begins with a single concept, then
drawn as an image in the center of a blank page, where associated representations ideas will be
added, such as words and images. Main ideas will be connected directly to the central concept, and
other sub topics branch out from the major ones. Mind maps are similar to spider diagrams because
of the layout of their major ideas and sub ideas. People can create a mind map by hand as rough
notes for an urgent meeting or lecture; they can also use a specialized mind mapping program for
more professional situations.

HOW I APPLIED MIND MAPPING?

I used it as a tool for presentation. Once complete, mind maps can easily be turned into broad
outlines of course objectives, as a word or a power point format, which can then be presented to
stakeholders for feedback. Outlines provide a high-level overview which helps summarize and
consolidate information. A semi-detailed map is a great instrument for power-notes, as well as a
road map for an agenda. The alignment becomes concrete when presented in this format.

INSIGHTS-

In a Mind Map, information is structured in a way that mirrors exactly how the brain functions – in a
radiant rather than linear manner. It literally ‘maps’ out your thoughts, using associations,
connections, and triggers to stimulate further ideas. They make it easier to extract your ideas from
your head into something visible and structured.

Mind Maps really come into their own when it comes to encouraging creativity and enabling you to
generate new ideas in brainstorming sessions. This is because the spatial layout of a Mind Map helps
you gain a better overview, making new connections more visible so you can create an infinite
number of thoughts, ideas, links, and associations on any topic. Adding images to a map can also aid
in this process by acting as visual stimuli. Images are processed instantly by the brain, enabling us to
quickly make associations and recall information.
APPROACH-

Mind Mapping might help plan and organize my thinking before I start writing or get stuck into a
project. This is because I can use the technique to develop all my ideas and see where they relate to
each other before deciding the best way to go about the task at hand. It would help me get this
completed in a more effective way.

I think it can help me handle challenging questions with confidence. This is due to the fact that the I
could internalize the information more effectively because of the Mind Map’s unique representation
of it. Thus, I had better recall of the information I needed because it had been captured and stored
in an integrated, radiating manner rather than a linear one.
