‫‪Allah, SWT, says in suratul-Burooj,‬‬

‫‪“CONSIDER the sky full of great‬‬

‫‪constellations, and [then remind yourself‬‬
‫;‪of] the promised Day‬‬

and [of] Him (Allah, SWT) who witnesses
[all], and [of] that unto which witness is
borne [by Him]!

And RAsulUllahe, SAW, said:

‫ود يَ ْوُم الْ ِقيَ َام ِة‬

ُ ُ‫الْيَ ْوُم الْ َم ْوع‬
„The promised day is the Day of Qiyamah

َ‫ود يَ ْوُم َعَرفَة‬

ُ ‫َوالْيَ ْوُم الْ َم ْش ُه‬
The Witness day is the Day of Arafah

‫اجلُ ُم َع ِة‬ ِ ‫والش‬

ْ ‫َّاى ُد يَ ْوُم‬ َ
The day of the witnesses is the Day of
Jumuah‟

The topic of our khutbah today is „The

virtues of Yawmul-Arafah‟

 The Prophet's Last Sermon

[This sermon was delivered on the Ninth

Day of Dhul-Hijjah 10 A.H. in the 'Uranah
valley of Mount Arafat' in Mecca.]

After praising and thanking Allah the

RasulUllahe, SAW, said:

"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I

know not whether after this year I shall
ever be amongst you again.

Therefore listen to what I am saying very

carefully and take these words to those
who could not be present here today.

O People, just as you regard this month,

this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the
life and property of every Muslim as a
sacred trust.

Return the goods entrusted to you to their

rightful owners.

Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you.

َ‫ضائِ ُل يَ ْوم َعَرفَة‬
َ َ‫ف‬ 4
Remember that you will indeed meet your
Lord, and that he will indeed reckon your
deeds.

Allah has forbidden you to take usury

(interest); therefore all interest obligations
shall henceforth be waived. Your capital is
yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor
suffer any inequity.

Allah has judged that there shall be no

interest and that all the interest due to
Abbas ibn 'Abd'al Muttalib [RasulUllah‟s
uncle] be waived.

Every right arising out of homicide in pre-

islamic days is henceforth waived and the
first such right that I waive is that arising
from the murder of Rabiah ibn al Harith
ibn 'Abd'al Muttalib.

O People, the unbelievers indulge in

tampering with the calendar in order to
make permissible that which Allah forbade,
and to forbid that which Allah has made
permissible. With Allah the months are
twelve in number. Four of them are holy,
three of these are successive and one
occurs singly between the months of

Jumada and Shaban.

Beware of Shaytan, for the safety of your

religion. He has lost all hope of that he will
be able to lead you astray in big things, so
beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain

rights with regard to your women but they
also have rights over you. Remember that
you have taken them as your wives only
under Allah's trust and with His
permission. If they abide by your right,
then to them belongs the right to be fed
and clothed in kindness. Do treat your
women well and be kind to them for they
are your partners and committed helpers.
And it is your right that they do not make
friends with anyone of whom you do not
approve, as well as never to be unchaste.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship

Allah, establish your five daily prayers, fast
during the month of Ramadhan, and give
your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you
can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an
Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab
nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an
Arab; also a white has no superiority over
a black nor does a black have any
superiority over a white - except by piety
and good action. Learn that every Muslim
is a brother to every Muslim and that the
Muslims constitute one brotherhood.
Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim
which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it
was given freely and willingly. Do not
therefore do injustice to yourselves.
Remember one day you will meet Allah
and answer your deeds. So beware: do not
stray from the path of righteousness after
I am gone.

O People, no prophet or messenger will

come after me, and no new faith will be
born. Reason well, therefore, O People,
and understand my words, which I convey
to you. I leave behind me two things, the
Qur'an and my Sunnah and if you follow
these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my

words to others and those to others again;
and may the last ones understand my

words better than those who listen to me
directly.

As part of the sermon, RAsulUllahe, SAW,

recited to the sahabah a revelation from
Allah, which he had just received, AND
WHICH COMPLETED THE QURAN, for it was
the last passage to be revealed:

Suratul-Maaídah, ayah3

ِ ‫سَالَّ ِذينَ َك َفروا َِم‬

َ‫نَدينِ ُكمَفَالََتَخ َشو ُىم‬ َ ِ‫الي ومَيئ‬
ُ َ َ ََ َ
‫َواخ َشو َِن‬
“Today, those who, are bent on denying
the truth have lost all hope of [your ever
forsaking] your religion: do not, then, fear
them, but fear Me!

َ‫َعلَي ُكم‬
َ ‫ت‬ُ ‫َوأَتَ َمم‬ ِ
َ ‫تَلَ ُكمَدينَ ُكم‬
ُ ‫اليَ وَمَأَك َمل‬
ِ ‫يتَلَ ُكمَا ِإلسالَم‬
‫َدينًا‬ ِ ِ ِ
َ ُ ُ ‫يَوَرض‬ َ ‫نع َمت‬
“Today have I perfected your religion for
you, and have bestowed upon you the full

measure of My blessings, and willed that
Islam shall be your religion.”

Towards the end of the sermon,

RasulUllah, SAW, asked the audience, the
sahabah,

„O people, have I faithfully delivered unto

you The Message?‟

A powerful reply came back from the

sahabah „Allahumma, naám‟ – „O Allah,
Yes‟.

RasulUllahe, SAW, raised his forefinger &

said:

„Be my witness, O Allah, that I have

conveyed Your message to Your people.‟

RasulUllahe, SAW, said:

َُ‫اَمن َيَوٍم َأَكثَ َر َِمن َأَن َيُعَتِ َق َاللَّو‬

ِ ‫«م‬

.» ‫َع َرفََة‬ ‫م‬ِ‫اَم َنَالنَّا ِر َِمنَي و‬
ِ ‫فِ ِيوَعب ًد‬
َ َ َ َ
„There isn‟t any other day greater than the
day of Arafah in which Allah, SWT, frees
His slaves from the fire of Hell.‟

Arafah is a day on which Allah, SWT,

accepts supplications, duáas, as
RasulUllahe, SAW, said:

.»َ،َ‫َع َرفَة‬‫م‬ ‫و‬ ‫َي‬‫اء‬‫ع‬‫َد‬‫اء‬ َ ‫« أَف‬
„The best day for supplications is the day
of Arafah.‟

 RasulUllahe, SAW, said, the best
supplications on this day are:

َ‫َوال‬ ‫و‬ ِ ‫« ما َِمن َأَيَّ ٍام َأَعظَم‬

ِ َّ‫َعن َد َالَل‬
َ ُ َ
َ‫َى ِذ ِه‬ ‫ن‬ ِ ‫ب َإِلَي ِو َِم َن َالَعم ِل َفِي ِه َّن‬
‫َم‬ ُّ ‫َح‬
َ ََ َ َ‫أ‬
َ‫ َفَأَكثِ ُروا َفِي ِه َّن َِم ََن‬،‫األَيَّ ِام َال َعش َِر‬
. »‫يد‬)1 ( ِ ِ
َ ‫َوالتَّحم‬ ‫ر‬ِ ‫ي‬ِ‫يلَوالتَّكب‬ َ ِ ِ‫التَّهل‬

„These ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are the best
days near Allah, SWT, and the deeds &
those who perform deeds in these days are
the most beloved to Allah, SWT. So in
these days be consistent in your
supplication of
" ‫" ال الہ اال ہللا " " ہللا اکبر " " الحمد ہلل‬

 RasulUllahe, SAW, said, the best deed of
Yawmul Arafah is fasting on this day:

‫ب‬ ‫س‬ ‫ت‬ ‫َح‬ ‫أ‬ َ ‫ة‬‫ف‬

ََ‫السنَة‬
َّ ‫َو‬ ‫و‬ ‫ل‬ ‫ب‬ ‫َق‬ ‫ي‬ ِ

„The fasting of the day of Arafah wipes the
sins of the past one year and the next one
year.‟

It is such a great blessing & Mercy of

Allah, SWT, that along with the hujjaj , He,
SWT, has given opportunities to the ones
who could perform Hajj, with ways of
availing Allah‟s Pleasure & Mercy.
RasulUllahe, SAW, said:

َ ‫يو‬ َ َ‫َمل‬َ ‫َمن‬ َ ‫« إِ َّن‬
َ ‫َى َذاَيَوٌم‬
.» ُ‫سانَوَُغُ ِف َرَلََو‬ ِ‫وبصرهَول‬
َ َ ََُ ََ

 „The one who controls his hearing, his
sight & his speech on this day Allah, SWT,
will grant him forgiveness.‟

The one who reaps the virtues & benefits

is the most fortunate,

And the shaytan hates this day,

as RasulUllahe, SAW, said,

RasulUllahe, SAW, said,
„This day is the most distraugtful for the
shaytan, as he sees the muslims around
the world being blessed with the Mercy &
Forgiveness of Allah, SWT.‟

‫‪If we are intelligent, then we MUST make‬‬
‫‪the best use of these remaining days of‬‬
‫& ‪Dhul-Hijjah, the day of Yawmul-Arafah‬‬
