VISAYAN LITERATURE
THE BULK of Visayan Literature comes from Region6 (Western Visayas, Region 7 (Centralk Visayas),
and Region 8 (Eastern Visayas)
REGION VI
The first people of Region 6 are the aboriginal Ati or Aeta – the black, pygmy, kinky – haired nomadic
people whose civilization has remained at the hunting and fishing stage up to this time.
Hiligaynon is the language or lingua franca of the West Visayas, and the various West Visayas
settlements in Mindanao.
REGION VII
Each island in the region has a variety of food, fashion, furniture and fun offerings that are sure
to enthrall local and foreign tourists alike – products and services that can only be seen in the
area, those that are uniquely and distinctly Central Visayas.
The mangoes of Cebu are also famous for its sweetness and size. Mangoes are harvested all year
round. These fruits are exported to other countries.
