Concept Notes:

Idioms include peculiar use of particular words and phrases that turn into expressions which,
from prolonged use, have become part of any language.
An idiomatic expression usually has several associated meanings. It has a meaning which
cannot be understood from its grammatical construction alone.
Getting the meaning of an idiom can be made possible if you consider the way they are used
in context.

Activity 1:
Direction: Study the idiomatic expressions in the sentences that follow. Give their meaning using context
clues.

1. I wanted to learn to read at any cost.

2. My warm-hearted little play fellows lived on Philpot Street.
3. My spirit was roused to eternal wakefulness once I gained much knowledge.
4. There were those who took pleasure in teaching me.

Activity 2:
Direction: Write at least four (4) sentences using idiomatic expressions.
