Question-1:

IMPORTANCE OF INTERNET TECHNOLOGY IN ECONOMY AND BUSINESSES

“As the 21st century continues, it becomes increasingly difficult to imagine how business can be
conducted without the Internet. The Internet has transformed many areas of the business arena,
and especially communication. By drastically reducing the time required to transmit information
over both long and short distances, the Internet has made itself indispensable for commercial
endeavors.”[ CITATION Bla17 \l 1033 ]

Marketing and Advertising

“The Internet has become an essential marketing and advertising tool for businesses. Some
businesses do not exist in bricks-and-mortar form, and therefore the Internet, in the form of a
website and online advertising, represents the entire storefront they present to the buying public.
Other businesses use Internet advertising to supplement newspaper and radio advertising or in
store promotions, especially when targeting younger potential customers.”[ CITATION Bla17 \l 1033
]

Image Building

“Most savvy business owners of both large and small ventures recognize the importance of
establishing a Web presence through a website. Along with their own websites, some businesses
have attempted to engage themselves in the social networking phenomenon called Web 2.0,
which began to escalate in the late 20th century. By establishing profiles on platforms such as
Facebook and LinkedIn, businesses attempt to execute soft marketing to enhance their image
with potential customers or clients as well as the general public.”[ CITATION Bla17 \l 1033 ]

Communication and Interaction

“Although telephone communication is far from dead, much business communication takes place
through email. Companies use email to communicate with the public and to transmit messages
within the company. Additionally, real-time communication such as instant messaging (IM),
Internet telephony (through services such as Skype) and even virtual meetings and conferences

2
have become increasingly important in the day-to-day workings of business in the 21st century.”[
CITATION Bla17 \l 1033 ]

Information Gathering

“Whether the searches take place on the Web or through specialized databases such as
LexisNexis or Hoovers, Internet searching has become an absolutely essential research tool for
businesses in nearly every industry. Libraries have been transformed by the Internet explosion,
with much of their collections being converted to electronic records, which are made available to
patrons through the Internet. In addition to accessing library records online, businesses access
breaking news and stock exchange information in real time via the Internet. Businesses also
conduct research online.”[ CITATION Bla17 \l 1033 ]

Remote Services

“Many companies employ workers, contractors and consultants as telecommuters.

Telecommuters can be located locally or very far away from a company's base of operations.
Companies with an international presence use the Internet to facilitate communications between
their offices in varied locations.”[ CITATION Bla17 \l 1033 ]

Transactions

“Additionally, the Internet has made it easier, faster and less expensive to process payments and
other transactions essential to businesses.”[ CITATION Bla17 \l 1033 ]

IMPORTANCE OF INTERNET TECHNOLOGY IN RESEARCH

“Today, many students are using the internet to do research and complete their assignments.
Since the internet is full of information, most students use this as a source of education. In fact,
there are now even online programs and courses available, which people can easily access to
study and learn other things even while they’re at the comfort of their homes. Years ago, if you
wanted to find something out, you would have to run at a public library and look through a pile
of books, which is very tiring and time-consuming. But now, with just a few clicks of your
mouse, you can already get any information you need.”[ CITATION Pro15 \l 1033 ]

3
 “Better matching. Search helps customers, individuals, and organizations find
information that is more relevant to their needs.”[ CITATION Bug11 \l 1033 ]
 “Time saved. Search accelerates the process of finding information, which in turn can
streamline processes such as decision making and purchasing.”[ CITATION Bug11 \l 1033 ]
 “Raised awareness. Search helps all manner of people and organizations raise awareness
about themselves and their offerings, in addition to the value of raised awareness from an
advertiser’s perspective that has been the focus of most studies.”[ CITATION Bug11 \l 1033 ]
 “Price transparency. This is similar to better matching in that it helps users find the
information they need, but here, the focus is on getting the best price.”[ CITATION Bug11 \l
1033 ]
 “Long-tail offerings. These are niche items that relatively few customers might want.
With the help of search, consumers can seek out such offerings, which now have greater
profit potential for suppliers.”[ CITATION Bug11 \l 1033 ]
 “People matching. This again entails the matching of information but this time focusing
on people, be it for social or work purposes.”[ CITATION Bug11 \l 1033 ]
 “Problem solving. Search tools facilitate all manner of problem solving be it how to build
a chair, identify whether the plant your one-year-old has just swallowed is poisonous, or
advance scientific research.”[ CITATION Bug11 \l 1033 ]
 “New business models. New companies and business models are springing up to take
advantage of search. Without search, many recently developed business models would
not exist. Price comparison sites are a case in point.”[ CITATION Bug11 \l 1033 ]
 “Entertainment. Given the quantity of digital music and video available, search creates
value by helping to navigate content. For a generation of teenagers who pass on TV to
watch videos on YouTube instead, search has also enabled a completely different mode
of entertainment.”[ CITATION Bug11 \l 1033 ]

Question-2:

Importance of a good Database Management System (DBMS) for the businesses and economy

“Database Management System – The world of data is constantly changing and evolving every
second. This in turn has created a completely new dimension of growth and challenges for
companies around the globe. By accurately recording data, updating and tracking them on an
efficient and regular basis, companies can address their challenges on one hand and make use of
the immense potential offered by this sector on the other hand.”[ CITATION SHE16 \l 1033 ]

“By collecting minute and updated data, companies are using the said information to achieve
their goals in a systematic way on one hand and empower their business in a strategic manner on
the other hand. Some of the activities conducted after collection of data include creating
accounting reports, calculating sales estimates and creating invoices of customers. This data and
its insights are then made available to the management and employees of the organization
through computerized database. One of the proven ways in which brands can manage the
relationships between the various database elements is through the use of database management
systems, which is today an integral part of functioning of companies and organizations around
the world.”[ CITATION SHE16 \l 1033 ]

“Database management systems are therefore crucial and important links in the creation as well
as management of data. They are needed for effective running and management of data. It also
helps companies to transfer the said data through the entire systems. Some of the reasons why
data management systems are important include the following:”[ CITATION SHE16 \l 1033 ]

Data management system is needed for data access within the company

“Modern database management systems are dependent on a programming language that is called
structured query language. This language is then used to access, update and delete data that are
present within its tables. The database systems also contain programs that include Microsoft’s
SQL server and the open source MySQL queries that enable outside programs to access its data
through SQL queries. For example, a web page can display information or data that includes
product data and description, photographs and prices. This information is easily available to the

5
user easily, when the web server software is connected to the relational database management
system.”[ CITATION SHE16 \l 1033 ]

It is needed to maintain strong relationships between data

“One of the most important functions of relational database management systems programs is
that it allows different data tables to relate to one another. When a database contains information
about employee data on its product sales in one table and another table contain information one
with sales employee data, then a relational database will be perfect to manage their relationships
in a systematic and simple style. This system in turn can help brand managers to understand
important statistics like which salesperson is able to sell the most or which product is being sold
by a particular salesperson.”[ CITATION SHE16 \l 1033 ]

This system allows newer and better updates

“A useful and productive database management system allows brand managers to not just enter
newer information but also update the current information and also delete information that they
do not require. For example, when a salesperson is able to sell 1,000 units, then that person can
enter that transaction information in the relational management system which can include certain
details like the person’s name, customer information along with the product and number of
products sold by the user. The relational database management system will enter the new records
and update all the required information, thereby allowing brands to track and sell their products
in an effective fashion.”[ CITATION SHE16 \l 1033 ]

It helps brand managers to search data in a better manner

“The relational database management system also allows brand managers to maintain and build
their data over successive years. The various tables in the relational database management
system allow brand managers to search through their entire system for particular information.
The company manager can easily find any information that they need, using particular criteria.
This is also available for customers who can search for any feature that they want including
price, color and brand. By storing information in a predictable and sequential format, it enables
users to find the information they need with a lot of ease.”[ CITATION SHE16 \l 1033 ]
