 About the Vishwavidyalaya
Doctor Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya was initially established as
'University of Sagour' on 18th July, 1946 by Dr. Harisingh Gour, a great visionary, social
reformer, eminent legal luminary. The university was upgraded into a Central
University in 2009 and has the credit of being the oldest university of M.P. with a large
spectacular campus embraced with natural beauty. The Vishwavidyalaya covers a
vast panorama of academics with 5 Centers, 2 Regional Study Centers, and 36
departments running under 10 schools and in all offering 110 programmes at
undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate levels. The globally recognized Choice
Based Credit System (CBCS) is successfully implemented in the Vishwavidyalaya
since 2009.
About the Department
Department of Education of the Vishwavidyalaya came into existence
initially as Post Graduate Basic Training (PGBT) College in 1961 of Government of
Madhya Pradesh; it functioned as “University College of Education” from 1967-2011.
After the up-gradation of the university in to a Central University in 2009, this
University College of Education with all its entities and amenities was renamed as
Department of Education on 27 March 2011. Department of education is
successfully running different viz. B.A. B.Ed. / B.Sc. B.Ed. (Four Year Integrated), B.A.
(Education) M.Ed. and Ph.D. programmes. Recently, department of education
received grant for up gradation of department of education into school of education
under the PMMMNMTT scheme of Ministry of Human Resource Development,
Government of India. The school of education has established two centers namely
Centre for Pre-Service Teacher Education (CPSTE) and Centre for Professional
Development of Teacher Educators (CPDTE).
About the Workshop
In the 21st century the universities are not only the centres for teaching and
learning but they are now also functioning as the hub of qualitative and quantitative
researches. The research scholars of any institution plays key role in the
development of different fields of researches. Therefore, they must equip with the
modern methods, tools and techniques for data analysis which are used in the
different fields of researches. Most of the users of statistics, as a decision making tool,
feel themselves handicapped in understanding the theoretical concepts, selection of
appropriate statistical tools and interpretation of results in a meaningful ways. It is
really difficult for a person who is not well versed with research methodology and the
core philosophy of statistics. The main objective of workshop is to expose the
participants towards simple and exhaustive ways of data analysis through interactive
and practice based sessions along with theoretical learning. The organisation of
workshop is in such a way that the issues of research methods and data analysis may
be easily understood by even those participants who do not have any initial
background of statistics and mathematics. The workshop provides the different
learning styles, with an emphasis on active interactive participation through lab
sessions running along with theory sessions. Participants will be provided with
sample data set to analyse so that they may gain confidence and expertise in
conducting researches in their respective subject domains.
The software used in the workshop will be SPSS since SPSS is the data analysis
software package of choice for applied researchers for making inferences. The
Microsoft Excel is also a very strong tool in statistical computing and enhancing the
practical concept of calculation mechanism. The participants will get a hands-on
experience of MS-Excel and its use in solving the examples before using SPSS. This
workshop is designed for research scholars of social sciences looking to derive
answers from raw data, including big data sets, using a comprehensive range of
statistical analyses and methods. This workshop will provide a solid background in
performing statistical data analysis to the participants. It will develop statistical
skills of participants in collecting, analyzing and interpreting data to make better
decisions in any research based on strong statistical techniques.
Objectives of the Workshop
lTo explore the fundamental concepts of data analysis.
lTo learn to use various techniques and tools for data collection.
lTo learn how and when the variables are measured?
lTo familiar with tabulation and classification of data and their practice.
lTo understand the uses of parametric and non-parametric statistical tests.
lTo understand the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.
lTo understand the different types of hypotheses and their testing.
lTo develop in-depth knowledge, understanding and practice of the EXCEL and
SPSS for data analysis.
lTo familiarize the participants towards simple and exhaustive ways of data analysis
through interactive and practice based sessions along with theoretical learning.
lTo provide a hands-on experience of the models and tools used for conducting
research in the different subject domains of Social Science, Humanities and
Science subjects.
lTo equip the participants with the knowhow to using SPSS to perform analyses to
check for statistical significance and interpret the data output in a manner
relevant to them.

website: . No registration fee is charged. All the participants must come with their own
laptops to facilitate the workshop. The interested candidates may send their duly
filled attested application forwarded by the supervisor along with the head of the
concern department through e-mail addressed to educationdept02@gmail.com
before 20 December, 2017 or by hand to the organizing secretary/convener of the
workshop. Seats are limited; therefore registration will be on the basis of first come
first serve.
Accommodation
The delegates may arrange accommodation on their own. However, delegates
from out of station may approach the university guest house free of cost with limited
