WHAT IS SYNTHESIZING THE TEXT

ESSAY:DOED EDUCATION PREPARE A STUDENT FOR

REAL WORLD?

UNIVERSITY OF OKARA

DOMS
What is synthesizing the text? How do you synthesize using different skills? What are the step
by step approaches for synthesizing?
Define synthesizing:

Synthesis is the method of using information from two or more resources in order to develop new ideas about the
topic or draw conclusion about it.

Synthesis involves comparing resources (similarity and differences) and providing support.

or

Synthesizing is defined as combining a number of different parts or ideas to come up with a new idea or theory is
called synthesizing.

An example of synthesizing is when you read different types of books and use all of the information to come up with
a thesis on a subject. synthesizing is a vital and complex skill in Essay Writing, Literature Reviews and other forms of
Academic Writing.

What is synthesizing the text:

A synthesis is a combination, usually a summarized version, of several texts made into one. It contains the vital
points in the text and is written in your own words. To make a synthesis you need to find appropriate sources, and
then to select the relevant parts in those sources of information.

Why we synthesize? Or synthesize use:

At university you have to express that you can direct research and afterward apply that research related to your own
plans to deliver new ideas or arguments. Joining your data in insightful manners to deliver new thoughts or arguments
is called synthesizing.
How do you synthesize:

When you need to synthesize your ideas and summaries to produce new ideas thoughts, information and arguments
then you need the technique Paraphrasing and Summarizing.

Paraphrasing:

Paraphrasing is presenting ideas and information in your own words and recognizing where they come from. By using
your own words, you prove your understanding and your ability to convey this information.

We have all watched tv shows or heard news stories we wanted to tell others about. We may have told our friends, our
family, or our workers about what happened, how it happened, and why it happened. We described the storyline, the
main characters, the events, and significant points using our own words.

Summarizing:

A summary is a synthesis of the main ideas of a piece of writing, repeated in your own words. You may write a
summary as a stand-alone assignment or as part of a thesis. Whenever you summarize, you must be careful not to
copy the same wording of the original source of information.

How do we summarize?

A good summary:

1. Identifies the writer of the original text.

2. Synthesizes the writer’s key ideas.
3. Presents the information impersonally.
Summaries can fluctuate in length.
There are many other skills which are helpful in synthesizing, first of all separate facts from opinions. You need to
recognize that what are the facts and opinions. After that you need to Draw inferences or logical assumptions from
these facts. For example

Inference example:

The thunder boomed! and my dog hide under the bed and was trembling like a leaf.

I know that the thunder was loud. I know that the loud noises can be terrifying. The texts say the dog was trembling
and hiding under the bed. I can infer that the dog is afraid.

Think about the information and estimate where it fits in with the argument (essay, report, thesis etc.) you are
developing. You should also be able to think about the information and estimate where it fits into your argument.

What is the step by step approaches for synthesizing?

This is a step-by-step guide to synthesizing resources from a number of different sources:

1. Brainstorming your ideas on relevant topic

2. After brainstorming read the relevant material.
3. Make notes on key focuses from this material. Make sure to consistently utilize your own words and to
reference the thoughts and expressions of others.
4. The after create a summary for each and every text information
5. Identify mutual ideas and differences between the texts.
6. From the sum of this data you presently combine or compose another data content.

Step 1. Brainstorming your ideas

Brainstorming involves:

⮚ Thinking about what you previously know about the topic.

⮚ Scrawl down any idea, facts, connections or phrases that come to mind.
⮚ Reading the question many times to get as much out of it as possible.
⮚ Excluding key words from the question and note them down.
⮚ Thinking wisely about what you previously know about the question and its key words.
Step 2. Read all relevant material:

During your studies, you will often come across the challenge of having to do a lot of reading in a very less time, so
you will have to be selective and economical but, of course, critical, also. Whenever you find reading materials, it is
important to pause and go back to your project. Focus on the requirements and important points, and consider how the
article may contribute to your preparation of a response. Always keep your question in mind so that you select
material related to your topic. The length of your assignment is also significant to remember in terms of what
information you should keep and what is needless or simply won’t fit into this assignment.

Step 3. Notes making:

Write phrases, not full sentences during notes taking. Only record the significant words that you need to get the idea
of the point. Skip words like “the” and “a” that do not add additional meaning to the lecture content. Keep in mind
key technical or discipline specific terms.

Take notes in your own words. Paraphrase what you hear so it makes sense to you it helps you to recognize and
remember what you hear. Try to paraphrase all except where information needs to be noted precisely.

Build your notes with headings, subheadings and numbered lists. Do not forget to include references for your notes as
well from the original sources.
Step 4. Summarizing:

After notes making you need to convert your notes into summary. A summary is a synthesis of the key ideas of a
piece of writing, repeated in your own words i.e. paraphrased. You may write a summary as a separate assignment or
as part of a longer paper. Whenever you summarize, you must be careful not to copy the exact wording of the original
source of information.

Step 5. Identify Common Ideas:

After summarizing you need to identify the common ideas from the text. This is a helpful technique in synthesizing
the information. Then look at different texts. Then writing the main idea of text in to your own words. Then after
identify the similar ideas and different ideas, and then sorting out this.

Step 6. Synthesize the text:

The last stage expects you to synthesize or put the entire data together into another form of information. After these
steps composed the data and write a new article or thesis into your own words. It pulls together all of the information
you have acquired from your reading from a number of sources and makes it your own. Remember to incorporate
references for the thoughts of others.
Does The Education System Prepare a Student For The Real World

The Basic and short answer is ‘No.’

Being a more positive view, you might say, ‘In some ways it does, but it could do more.’

School education doesn’t tackle real-world issues. Real life skills are not involved in the course and there is a break
between what students learn in school vs. what they need in future life. Outdated course subjects and topics should not
be mistreated, but tutors should be able to ask the class, “How can we use this experience in real life”. School and
university education don’t tackle the real-world issues. What we learn in school is diverse for all of us, but it is
intended to provide aids and info that serves as a base for almost any profession or life pathway. Even though this is
the clue behind education, the structure doesn’t fully assist this purpose. It delivers students with a real base of
knowledge, but doesn’t really formulate them for expressive work in the real world. All over their high school years,
students continuously question if or when they ever will use, in the actual world, certain ideas they study in class.

Although high schoolers are presented an plenty of fascinating classes on a diversity of topics, students may not be
learning the most compulsory life skills to have when toward the inside maturity. This is because the required wide-
ranging education classes go in deepness to a level that would only be appropriate and helpful to those following that
actual field of study. To resolve the problem of students being ill-prepared when progressing out of high school,
schools should consider requiring students to take more life skills classes and put less importance on general
education courses. The modern children of our society are being apparently less prepared for middle age than their
parents’ peers. Young children today are the perfect example of what can occur if parents never trial their children to
go overhead and elsewhere. Alike goes with the institutes.
Real life skills are nowhere involved in the course. That’s where the break occurs between what students’ study and
why they need to learn for future life. The school system does not cover learning as an alternative, uses outdated
courses subjects and topics. To be honest, this age group of youths lacks optimistic attitude, vision, morals, skills,
imagination, cooperation, and many other features. On the off chance that you toss an understudy to the genuine
world, they won't have the option to deal with themselves or the issues. Current education system teaches basic
requirements, however most of the syllabus is not anywhere related in the real world. Education system emphases on
getting good grades somewhat than finding passion, talents or a purpose within the students. Even though schools do
teach helpful skills like persistence, obligation and social skills, they fail to tie the material. They fail to teach the fight
to make sure that students can be self-dependent after high school. From what I have seen in the eleven years that I
have been in actual school, there are very rare people that like school. Maybe it’s because they find it uninteresting or
they don’t feel safe but for me it’s because I don’t find many of the things that we are being taught pertinent. I feel
that many of the things we are learning will not be used past the sixteen years that we are in school and will be
overlooked after we graduate from institution.

Eighty percent of the people that took it said that they not only did not like school but found that they were not being
planned for life after graduation. Many thought that while school often times does not teach skills that are used in
daily life others thought that it does explain how to work and how to make an effort. I think that it could be claimed
though that school can’t teach effort but it definitely can strengthen and improve the skill that you already have. It’s
true that schools teach knowledge but I think that everyone can agree that life needs sense and school does not teach
that. Many people have been accomplished by school to have the mindset that a given amount of struggle will always
bring a computable, predictable, and effective result. The real world doesn’t work like that. So, in fact school could be
setting students up to fail after graduation. Many of the books that are actually read in school are not the best use of
time.

One of the major criticisms of schools in current years has been that they are concentrating on examination results too
much. Of course, it is the system itself that has formed this problem. The reputation of league tables, and the way that
it gradually seems that all Ofsted truly care about is exam data, has caused schools to have that very slight attention on
results. But education should be about much, much more than examination grades. Many of the skills that we acquire
in school such as critical thinking, writing, speaking publicly, and the capability to discuss significant topics in groups
are very beneficial for careers in the real world, but much of the content we learn is frequently times not.

The skills we learn are valuable for almost any profession and in daily life. For example, you have to use writing skills
when writing a official email and when communicating professionally. Formal communication skills are also
compulsory for making calls, take part in meetings, conducting interviews, and much more in the working world. This
is alternative use of the skills we gain through school. School uniform, it could be said, prepares students for the fact
that dress codes do still occur in the office. Homework develops self-dependent learning

Work will be liquid which implies that individuals should be

capable at choosing up new abilities and being quick to learn.

Discipline and time administration are two more key skills that you could say students learn at school. Possibly the
most important of all though is social communication. Schools can be extreme and unforgiving spots in fact.

Education System of Schools:

The mentality given to the students by their parents and the education system in their school is totally ambiguous.
Education is only restricted to study hard and become doctors, engineers, or lawyers. Many students in fact don’t even
know who they actually want to be. Students learn how to remember certain information rather than learning critical
life skills on how to manage money, how to exchange or how to communicate in the real world. To be honest, this
might help you to get good degree, but in the life, it will definitely chase you down. A degree can help you to raise
few skills and make new networks, but it doesn’t teach you about success, hard work, commitment and passion. “The
more grades you have, the more probabilities you have to get a better job”, this is the mindset of most people. Though,
with change in time, companies have started to give job to skill smart students rather than the book smart ones. For
example, in a marketing firm, if the questioner asks you about to describe marketing, and you start telling the
definition of marketing from any book that you have studied, the interviewer will instantly kick you out of the
workplace. Organizations don't need somebody constrained to books and can't utilized their own head. Rather, they
want someone who has good skills and knowledge and how to use it in an improved way. School trains you to have
the mentality that a given amount of effort will always bring a quantifiable, predictable, and effective result. This
present world doesn't work that way. While it is true that it is important to be well-rounded and have an elementary
knowledge of the essential subjects, high school classes go far elsewhere the basics and further away from what will
really be valuable for understudies' fates. Often times, teachers say that things students are being educated in their
classes will come up later in life; this happens mostly in math classes.

“If education don't solve a problem, then it is a problem;

If an educated do not solve problems, then they are the problems.”

Our current revised education is non-functional in this respect. There are many important Life lessons that are not
taught in schools. Teachers should be allowed to encourage creativity among students to aggravate their curious
nature and a want to learn. In my judgement, education shouldn’t be limited in boundaries where students are seated
in the outdated rows and column style with all seats facing the front lends itself to ‘sit-and pay attention in teaching’.
In restricted walls, students are convinced that good grades are must for a fruitful life. This has disastrous
consequences like depression, piled up stress, cheating attitude, short cuts and staying up late common between
students. Canada has already felt the alarm, Ontario launches a plan to teach high school kid’s monetary skills.
Current education system teaches basic requirements however much of the syllabus is not applicable in the real world.
Education should be focused on discovering passion, talents or a purpose but the current situation doesn’t entertain
much. Education goes outside the classroom walls. A common circle is high school-college-university-job which most
of us surrounded without questioning why it is like this? Why not we allowed choosing what we want to be or attain?
Instead, in Pakistan, the occupations are chosen by parents. They want their children to become doctors, engineers,
civil servants, administrators or lawyers. Kids are told that they have to go to college and attain conservative as to be
successful. Time is changing uninterruptedly and instead of becoming a book smart young generation should be more
focused on skills. After all, education is all about development. Modern education is molding children into already set
scales where grades, job, good income, a house, a big car are considered as a successful life. We are making our
people a pay cheque slave, where they have to follow the 9-5 ritual and much more. I strongly recommend that
schools should start a class or a topic in which students are encouraged to discover their true passion.

Six Reasons Why School Does not Prepare You for the Real World:

For a person to become a really independent and capable fully-fledged, they need to work on themselves and do more
when it comes to getting ready for life than just attend school regularly. Although developments are continuously
being introduced to the educational system, it’s still not nearly sufficient. It’s a big world out there, and it will throw
numerous challenges your way. Your necessity to prepare yourself for them – you wouldn’t believe how many
graduates have complications with very simple tasks like paying the bills, for example. Ignoring this piece of advice
will most certainly leave you confused and discouraged to make it on your own, and I identify you don’t want to be
one of those people who comes back running to their parent’s house only year after school is done. So, check out the
following five indicators related to different areas of resourcefulness you should focus on. The five reasons are
following.
1: It Suffocates Curiosity

The favored among us have a few affinities previously created and school essentially causes us find out about them in
more detail, however the individuals who despite everything haven't uncovered their abilities spend their school years
just travelling from one class to another. The overall issue with classes and exercises is in immersion – the materials
that educators are attempting to show you, which you later need to concentrate so you can float through your
evaluations, are genuinely expansive. Considering that element, even that little curiosity students have gets suffocated.
In order to overcome this, you should never stop developing your skills and working on your capacities, because
that’s exactly what you’re meant to do in life and no amount of needless school material should take it away from
you.

2: Methods are Unadjusted

Just a small number of elite schools are testing and later applying innovative teaching methods, and they are not
available to the wide communal because of one simple reason – they are very expensive. There must have been a
wrong turn in the past of mankind where everyone decided that it’s just fine for education to have an unreasonably
high price. Besides, the forms of tests and coursework based on which students get their grades are old dated, like
essays – ask your teachers and lecturers when was the last time they wrote one. Probabilities are their answer won’t be
yesterday, so why is it that we devote so much time learning about the proper way to write essays, when this skill is
almost totally useless later in life? There’s not much we can do about it in a less period of time, but what you can do is
explore your options. Not all schools are like this, so my idea is to do some serious research when deciding where you
should continue your education because it’s not a problem of days or weeks, but years.

3: Being Plain Old Handy

Without a doubt, you're finished with your training and you should begin living without anyone else, making the most
of your mystery and autonomy, however there are a couple of things you disregarded. Another problem you’ll
possibly be faced with are minor home maintenances because chances are that you never had something as simple as a
screwdriver in your hands. So, I guess you’ll be confused with altering a light bulb.

4: Unfamiliarity of Monetary System

One more thing you should absolutely know how to do is money administration. Except if you have chosen to
examine something that is carefully identified with economy, not a solitary class you went to instructed you about
how to deal with cash, spare and contribute, and this usually turns out to be a serious problem in middle age.so
students need to study how to develop a budget and manage money. One class that ought to be energized or even
required for understudies to take is a financial aspects class. Econ classes teach students how money is distributed in
the economy and how to maintain and manage money. They teach about the push and pull of demand and supply in
the market, which is important for everyone as customers and future producers.

5: Lack of Cooking Skills

Likewise, home economics classes teach diverse skills for everyday life such as cooking, child care, home
administration, and health and cleanness.

Also, the last, yet positively not the least huge motivation behind why a school doesn't set you up for this present
reality is related to your home. You need to be able to feed yourself, and almost everyone I know is amazingly
confused when they enter the kitchen, let alone when they start using a breadknife or a pan. Cooking is fun and a great
way to release stress while you’re doing something inventive, so I don’t fully understand why this still is not one of
the classes everyone must join.
One last piece of advice takes classes outside of school. In my view everyone should have a wide knowledge base and
learn about everything in their lifetime, but you should take your future in your hands and shape it exactly how you
need to. There’s enough time for everything, of course – if you actually plan it appropriately.

6: Grading system

This can become even more exhausting and stressful because this style of learning doesn’t work for every student.
Furthermore, shockingly, our instruction framework pivots around reviewing in light of the fact that it is the best way
to plan understudies for school. Grades are an enormous part of how colleges determine who to admit, and so the
terror of getting bad grades can rule a student’s academic life. Many feel that if they don’t get good grades, they won’t
be able to “prosper” because they can’t go to college. This is a massive weight to put on students, and can divert them
from actually learning for the sake of learning, since they are just concentrating on what they have to do to get a
positive grade.

what should be done to bring changes

In order to make deviations, schools need to make a small effort towards the education system.

Teachers of the schools need to be allowed to encourage creativity among students to aggravate their curious nature
and wish to learn more. The instruction framework in general ought not be limited in limits where understudies are
situated in the customary lines and segment style. Understudies must not be programmed that passing marks are the
means of being fruitful. Rather than hypothetical learning, understudies ought to be pushed more towards viable
learning. In particular, for the college understudies, who will step this present reality soon. Regularly, the training
framework is single direction realizing where educators continue instructing and understudies continue learning. In
any case, educators and understudies ought to go inseparably. Understudies ought to hear opportunity to impart their
thoughts and sentiments to their instructor and get right input. With web blasting and numerous open doors crapping
up, the understudies must get opportunity to learn. They should get opportunity to investigate this present reality. For
that, schools and understudies must invest some additional energy on improving the information for both the current
just as people in the future.

Instead of schools inspiring these classes, students are enforced to take a wide diversity of different classes in areas of
study that most likely won’t be useful to them in the future life. And some kids do not have parents who take the time
to teach them the life skills that will help them to be independent and answerable. So, schools need to emphasis more
on requiring life skills classes rather than ordinary education classes. Students should learn things that will be
beneficial. They should learn lessons that will stick with them for their whole lives and help them be more confident
in the real world.

Schools should have to provide different co-curricular activities for the student’s easing during studies. Schools
should organize the sports week, cricket tournament, or football matches or other different sports. These can be said
the basic requirement of the students whether they are schools’ students or universities, to get calm is a basic need to
fresh mind. These activities will also help students for being fit and mental exercise to release the anxiety and burden.
this will help understudies in better learning.
