Introduction
Engineers in their career progression gradually assume more and more managerial
responsibilities. They have usually excellent potential to become managers. However, in
their academic program engineers have insufficient exposure to managerial courses. By
necessity the engineering courses train engineers to be objective, analytical and
specialized. To start a career, this background is helpful. But as they climb up the career
ladder they need to handle more managerial responsibilities. However, their basic
engineering knowledge and skill are still useful. Engineers at this stage of their career,
lack the managerial edge to be effective in their roles. So, in general, to make engineers
successful managers it is necessary to train and educate them for certain managerial
capabilities. The areas are identifiable as follows.
In addition, they should be able to cope with the changing economic and technology
environment. The advanced engineering management program envisaged by the
university took account of these needs of the engineers. The program is, therefore,
designed for engineers of all disciplines with the aim to meet the educational needs in
developing their managerial skills.
