PARISH MEN’S RETREAT
January 28th – 30th 2011
Last Reminder! There are still openings for our
annual retreat. The men of our parish will make
their annual retreat In Sierra Madre at the Mater
Dolorosa retreat house. In the quiet setting of the
San Gabriel foothills, the Passionist staff will guide
you to a renewal for your faith and a new perspec-
tive on your life. The Center provides a private
room and bath, (double rooms are available on re-
quest). Delicious meals, beautifully landscaped
grounds, outdoor Stations of the Cross, altogether
lend themselves to the spiritual benefits of this silent,
preached retreat. Don’t miss this chance to renew
yourself spiritually.
A non-refundable deposit of $50 is all it takes
to complete your registration. The total re-
quested donation for the retreat is $180 including
the deposit, but no one is ever turned away for
lack of funds. A deposit can be by check made out
to Mater Dolorosa or by MasterCard or Visa credit
card. You can’t afford not to join us. Pamphlets are

SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
The first meeting of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in
the United States was held on November 20,
1845, only twelve years after the Society's
formation in Paris. Nineteen of the most
prominent Catholic laymen of St. Louis at-
tended. The Conference was formally recog-
nized by the Society's International Council in Paris on
February 2, 1846. St. Louis became and remains the loca-
tion of the National Council of the SVDP in the United
States.

more satisfying when you work with others. Stephen
Ministry is one of those get-it-done-together ministries.
Stephen Ministers meet regularly with another person to
provide care. They also meet with other Stephen Minis-
ters to support and encourage one another. When
Stephen Leaders and Stephen Ministers work together,
God accomplishes wonderful things! Is God calling you

Respect Life
African American babies are three times more likely to
be aborted than white babies, according to data from the
U.S. Center for Disease Control. Since Roe v. Wade in
1973, the black population in the U.S. has been reduced
by over 25 percent. Planned Parenthood is accused of
targeting black communities because 78% of their facili-
ties are in minority neighborhoods.
