Workshop: Getting started as a translator

As part of your English Learning Process, it is important to get familiar with


technical vocabulary in order to be able to translate short pieces of texts containin
technical information.

A. Getting familiar with thechnical vocabulary


After revising the vocabulary in the material “Strategic framework: developing
guidelines”, read the given definitions and complete the followig crossword.

techniques used in a job design exercise.

different translations?
_ In my opinion, the first thing to do was to translate the words, according to the
context, and the second was to make a good interpretation so that the
translation was accurate and clear.

2. According to your experience, do you consider that translation is a complex


activity? Explain.

I think that it is a complex activity, because there are words that have many
meanings, and it is the interpreter's duty to use the correct meaning so that the
translation makes sense.

3. What do you think is necessary to do a correct translation?

_ From my view point, I believe that it is necessary to handle a wide vocabulary


of the foreign language and to have an idea of the context or theme of the text
to be translated.

4. According to your experience, what is the most difficult aspect about


translation?
I suppose that when in the text to be translated there are technical terms, words that
do not exist in Spanish or those hated by me, phrasal verbs.
