By completing the table, you have successfully clas-

sified the stories into genres.

You have successfully classified the stories into genres. Literary

genres are categories of creatively written works. The activity showed
you the difference between two basic literary genres which are comedy
and tragedy.

Comedy is a literary piece that is dramatic, but amusing or entertain-

ing at the same time. The mood of the story is light and it always has a
happy ending.

The poem entitled My Freaking Alarm is an example of a comedy

because the story is light and has a funny ending.

The second genre is tragedy. It is a literary genre that often tells a sad
story on suffering and misfortune. The death of the main or any major
character is its most common plot.

The flash fiction The Unlucky Winners is an example of a tragedy

because the story is quite thrilling and disturbing, and two of the charac-
ters died in the end.
