EXEMPLAR Teaching Date Quarter First
Teaching Time No. of days 5

I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, learners are expected

to:
1. Define seed;
2. Determine the characteristic of good
quality seeds;
3. Learn and understand the reasons why
seeds fail to germinate;
4. Identify the different methods of testing
seed germination; and
5. Compute for the percentage of
germination
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates an understanding of
the underlying concepts and principles in
performing nursery operations.
B. Performance Standards The learner shall be able to perform nursery
operations based on required task.
C. Most Essential Learning Competencies Perform nursery operations
(MELC)
D. Enabling Competencies

Development and Engagement Activities Module 2 Handle Seeds as Planting Material
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introduction What I Need To Know?
 The learner will read the covered
lesson as well as the different
objectives that they should attain
after utilizing the module.
What’s New?
 The learners will be presented 10
pictures of seeds, they will
determine whether the seed is of
good quality or not. They will
write their observation on the
seeds on their notebooks.
C. Development What I know?
 The learners will answer the 15 –
item activity to test what they
already know about seeds as
planting material.
 After answering the questions
they may check their answers on
page _____ to determine their
background knowledge about the
given topic reflected in MELC.
What’s In
 The learners will analyse to answer the
questions about selecting good quality
seeds to plant.

What Is It?
 The learners are provided with definition,
characteristics of good quality seeds, and
steps on how to perform seed testing and
formula and examples on how to
compute percentage germination of
seeds.
D. Engagement What’s More?
 The learners will perform the activities
indicated in the module. These activities
include the following: (a) methods of
seed testing; (b) computation of
percentage of germination.
 These varying activities will help them in
involving themselves in deeper learning
about quality of seeds and percentage
germination of seeds.

What I can Do?

 The learners will perform real-life tasks
identified in the module. These are
situational analysis on selecting seeds,
performing seed testing and computation
of germination percentage.
 They are expected to reflect on the
process of performing the task while
focusing on their learned concepts about
handling seeds as planting material.
What other enrichment activities can I engage in?
(Additional Activities)
 To further enrich learners’ knowledge,
skill and attitude/values they will be
performing enrichment activities such as
answering real life situation questions
that will help them relate themselves in
the real world.
C. Assimilation What I have learned?
 In formulating information reflective of
what they have learned during the
development and engagement phases,
the learners will answer the questions
focusing on the given topic. The
questions will synthesize learned
information based on the content given.
 They are expected to relate what they
have learned on their personal lives.
What I can do?
 The learners will answer the test
questions provided and check their
answers using the answer key found at
the latter part of the module.
V. REFLECTION  The learners in their journal or notebook
will write their personal insights about
the lesson by completing the following
sentence prompts.
