on Identify Relationships of Gender, Family, Peers, Media and Socio-Economic Status in
Choosing Profession!

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both from
public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners
meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and
economic constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent learning
activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire the
needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

What is It

What is gender?
Gender is a socially contracted definition of women and men. It is not the
same as sex (biological characteristics of women and men). Gender is determined
by the conception of tasks, functions and roles attributed to women and men in
society, in public and in private life.

What is family?
Family is a group consisting of parents and children living together in a
household.

What is peer?
Peer is someone at your own level. It comes from the Latin word par which
means equal.
What is media?
Media is the communication outlet or tool used to store and deliver
information or data.
What is socio-economic status?
Socio-economic status is the social standing or class of an individual and
often measured as a combination of education, income and occupation of as person.
What is profession?
Profession is a paid occupation, especially one that involves prolonged training
and a formal qualification. For example, lawyer, nurse, doctor, teacher etc.

Generalization
Family is a group consisting of parents and children living together in a
household. It is the smallest unit of the community. Beside our family we have also
peers who someone at our own level that we share memories. We all uses media as
the communication outlet or tool we used to store and deliver information or data.

Socio-economic status of an individual can be measured as a combination of


education, income and occupation.
Teachers, doctors, nurses, and policemen are examples of profession that is paid and
involves prolonged training and formal qualifications.
