What is an alloy?
• Alloys are mixed of metal with other metal or non-metal in the
same group that are prepared by mixing of the metals in their
molten state through physical processes.

WHY ALLOYS?
5
IMPORTANCE AND USES OF ALLOYS
6
TYPES OF ALLOYS
• Cast alloys
• Bearing alloys
• Corrosion-resisting Alloys
• Super-Austenitic Stainless Steels Alloy (SASS Alloy)
• High-Strength Corrosion-Resistant Alloys
7
PROPERTIES OF ALLOYS
• Strength
• Conduct electricity
• Durability
• Resistance of corrosion
• Advantages:
• Good castability
• Low hardness
• Disadvantages:
• Discoloration
• High CTE
• May form internal oxides
• Should not be cast in carbon crucible
