Unique Can Changer Concept


Advantages of large can sizes and automatic can changer

High efficiency due to automatic can


changer up to 1 000 mm cans
Unique on the double-head draw frame is the simultane-
ous can changer for up to 1 000 mm diameter cans. This
results in longer runtimes without operator intervention
as well as consistently high production efficiency. Espe-
cially in spinning mills with reduced personnel deploy-
ment, slumps in efficiency of more than 10% are avoided.
Compared to conventional double-head draw frames, the
productivity with carded cotton increases by up to 6 t per
day. By using the automatic can changer, an operator can
be allocated up to 1.5 times more SB-D 22 draw frames.

Less transport and sliver piecings due to large can sizes


The SB-D 22 allows the filling of large delivery cans with 1 000 mm diameter. This means, compared to smaller can
sizes, up to 400 000 fewer can transports and sliver piecings per year and draw frame which consequently generates
appropriate advantages in operating expenditure and quality. For example, using larger can sizes reduces the number of
cuts on the winder.

Operation sequence of the 1 000 mm can changer


Two cans are filled while two further cans are in the empty can magazine (Fig. 1). After can filling has been completed,
the machine stops and with a turn of 180 degrees replaces the full cans with the empty cans (Figs. 2 – 4). The machine
then restarts automatically. When the operator is in the draw frame area, he opens the can change arms by means of the
foot pedal and exchanges the full cans for empty cans.

The can changer for cans with a diameter of up to 1 000 mm automatically replaces the cans of both heads using a 180 degree turn.

Rapid batch change by central drafting system setting

Gentle, precise fiber guidance


The proven Rieter 4-over-3 drafting system is the heart
of the draw frame. Benefits in the geometry of the draft-
ing system and in the bearing fixture of the bottom rollers
allow close cylinder spacing. The precise fiber guidance
makes processing of short fiber lengths possible.

Large top rollers


The large top rollers guarantee interruption-free operation
without lap formation as well as high durability. They keep
the rotational speed and consequently the temperature of
the top roller cots low. This is the basis for high delivery
speeds. The new design of the top roller bearings also
keeps their temperatures low and increases operator con-
venience when replacing rollers. The load of the top rollers
can be set variably.

Exclusive fast load relief with


lap formation
If a lap occurs in the drafting system, the rapid discharge
already during the stopping of the machine hinders forma-
tion of hard laps. This prevents hard laps being incorrectly
removed, the cots damaged and therefore the sliver qual-
ity and running behavior of the draw frame impaired.

Convenient operation
Unique for a double-head draw frame is the central
drafting arrangement for both heads simultaneously. The
setting of the drafting system distances without gauges al-
lows rapid, reproducible batch change and guarantees ex-
act parallel positioning of the bottom rollers. The thread-
ing up of a sliver is quickly and reliably accomplished with
supporting compressed air.

Efficient Suction
High cleanliness by specific suction

Lifting cleaning lips on the top rollers


Trash accumulations on the cleaning lips are drawn directly into the
suction through the intermittent lifting of the lips. Practical tests
confirmed that fewer sliver funnel blockages due to dust accumula-
tion on the pressure bar occurred. The increased yarn cleanliness
is shown in reduced IPI and Classimat faults as well as in a lower
number of yarn clearer cuts.

Less frequent cleaning of top rollers


The patented cleaning lips and their layout reduce formation of de-
posits on the top rollers of the drafting system and consequently the
associated cleaning procedures. Also with the processing of cotton
containing honeydew, the cleaning lips have a positive effect. Fewer
stops due to cleaning work and fewer laps in the drafting system
increase the productivity of the machine.

Cleanliness already in the sliver feed


An additional suction point prior to the drafting system helps to
further improve dust extraction on the SB-D 22 and reduces clean-
ing. Already the smallest improvements in sliver cleanliness have
a positive effect on the running behavior, especially in rotor resp.
air-jet spinning.

Innovations in Coiling
Precise, consistent coiling quality and good downstream processing

CLEANcoil and CLEANcoil-PES coilers


CLEANcoil is the standard coiler for all fiber materials and therefore offers
maximal flexibility. The spiral coiling tube ensures coiling which is free of
drafting faults, even at high delivery speeds. A honeycomb structure on the
coiler underside reliably prevents deposits.

For the processing of 100% polyester, the latest development


CLEANcoil-PES with a new type of coating offers unique advantages in coil-
ing. Even with critical polyester fibers, the cleaning cycle can be extended
by at least 100%. This also leads to more consistent sliver and yarn quality.

Frequency-controlled main drive


Spinning mills must increasingly react even faster to their
customers' delivery requirements. On the SB-D 22, the
operating personnel can now set the delivery speed easily
and rapidly on the machine display. This saves time and
storage expenditure for drive pulleys. In addition, produc-
tivity of the draw frame can be precisely adjusted to the
requirements of the subsequent process stage. The well
conceived conception of the frequency inverter cooling
ensures the reliability of the drive, even at high room
temperatures. Self-explanatory display images simplify
operation of the machine.

Ergonomic and safe machine design


Conventional double-head draw frames are clearly limited
with regard to accessibility, operator convenience and
work safety. Operation of the drafting system is only possi-
ble from the front and personnel must stand with feet wide
apart on very small steps. On the SB-D 22, the lateral work
platforms allow convenient, safe and quick operation.

Innovative drive concept

Energy-efficient overall concept


The SB-D 22 saves energy by means of an innovative drive concept. Belt drives instead of more complex drive solutions
and the small number of motors and inverters keep energy consumption low. The short powertrain in comparison to
single-head or other double-head draw frames as well as the highly efficient engine technology lead to low power con-
sumption. Thanks to a well-designed drive system, the energy consumption is around 20% lower than on comparable
machines.

More flexible use of the frequency converter


The frequency converter used is also employed in other Rieter machines which saves
spare part and storage costs. It offers maintenance functions that allow quick replace-
ment and reduce downtimes. The frequency converter is designed for a long service life
of 10 years.

Service and Maintenance Concept


Low maintenance costs

Good accessibility
Large work platforms left and right of the draw frame
allow convenient maintenance of the machine. Wide
opening covers allow ergonomic access to all machine
components.

Central lubricating strip


To ensure highest reliability, the draw frame is equipped
with a central lubricating strip as a standard feature,
which supplies all relevant parts with lubricant. The lu-
bricating strip has optimal access and reduces the risk of
forgetting important lubrication points.

Quick tensioning device


Quick tensioning devices for the belts guarantee the right
belt tension force, independent of maintenance personnel.
This ensures a rapid belt change as well as a long lifetime
of the belts and bearings.

Minimal Space Requirements


Machine layouts for all space conditions

Also relating to space requirements, the SB-D 22 impress-


es. It is the ideal combination with the RSB-D 24 double-
head autoleveler draw frame. The machine width including
the 1 000 mm can changer is only 2.98 m. Installation of
the machine is possible at floor level as well as set into the
floor. The latter reduces the machine length by one meter.

Flexibility with the creel


To optimally adjust to space conditions in the spinning
mill, actively driven sliver feed variants in 2-, 3- and 4-row
can setup are available. For large feed cans up to 1 000 2-row: convenient operation with feed cans up to 1 000 mm diameter
mm diameter, Rieter offers two variants for the SB-D 22.
Alongside the 2-row creel for optimal access to the cans,
there is also a particularly space-saving variant with 3-row
can setup. The 3-row setup reduces the length of the
