Leadership

Term Assignment (20 Marks)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Write a report evaluating the leadership of a prominent leader in history (living or deceased)
belonging to any field of human endeavor. You are NOT allowed to write on any of the great
prophets of Allah as named in the Quran or the other revealed scriptures. The choice of leader is
yours, but please ensure that the leader is well known to all – including the faculty members
teaching this course. Do NOT select an obscure leader from your own organization or a family
member who runs a small business with a few staff members. If you are in any doubt about the
prominence of your chosen leader, check with the faculty member(s) before writing about
him/her.

Note: This is an individual assignment.

Using relevant theories and models critically evaluate and analyze the leadership of the leader
you have selected. If you were in the position of the leader, what could you do/have done to be a
better leader and make a stronger impact on the followers and on the situation?

In your report you must cover the following:

• A clear description of the leader, the organization/industry, and situation/context.

• An evaluation of the leader by referring to concepts and theories covered in the subject (e.g.
style, behavior, traits, attitudes, power) and by referring to relevant examples and mini-cases in
the textbook (where appropriate).

• A discussion of how you would lead differently if you were put in the same situation(s) as the
leader and how you could make a stronger impact on the followers and on the situation(s).

It is important to demonstrate your knowledge about leadership and to clearly reference your
sources. Read about leadership in journal articles (using EBSCO Host Online Library), books
(including the textbook), and leadership literature, etc. Note the sources and use them throughout
the report.

Remember that pure description and paraphrasing is not sufficient. A good report will clearly
take an analytical approach and demonstrate application of leadership concepts/theories. In
order to do well you need to structure your discussion well, use good references, and clearly link
recommendations to description and analysis presented earlier in the report.

Your report must be in printed form, in MS Word, double spaced, on A-4 sized paper, Times
New Roman, font size 14. Failure to follow these instructions will result in loss of marks. The
report should be between 500-1000 words; quality is more important than quantity.

If you still have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Warning: Plagiarism or copy-paste in any way, shape or form will result in an F grade!
