• USDA-National Needs Fellow, Interdisciplinary Graduate Research in Crop and Soil Science.
• In situ detection of plant stress in field crops using hyperspectral imaging spectroscopy.
• Investigate yield limiting factors of high-yielding corn in NC to reduce nutrient loss and improve
agricultural and grower outcomes.
• Presented research at NC Commodity conference 2018, 2019, and 2020.
• Presented research poster and oral presentation at NC Soil Science Society 2019 and 2020.
• Presented research poster at National tri-societies conference of Soil, Crop, and Agronomy.
• Demonstrated that grafting Cucumis melo L. to interspecific hybrid squash rootstock improved
resistance to sudden wilt, tolerance to cold soil, and increased yields in the northeastern US.
• Designed healing chamber and revised grafting protocol for the Loy lab using root excision and LED
lighting set-up.
• Assessed grafting compatibility of multiple melon cultivars to interspecific hybrid squash rootstock in
field trials.
• Participated in farmer field days and gave tours to school-aged children of Agriculture Experiment

• SARE-NE farmer grant: On-farm trial investigating use of low-tunnels to over-winter perennial
artichokes to provide growers with an alternate crop for vegetable crop diversity.
