Team, we need to test Oracle 8i client upgrade to 10g instant client.

I want al
l listed in To to install 10g instant client in his laptop/desktop and test the
application/db. Let Satya know if you have any issue in install.

Instructions to install oracle 10.2.0.4 instant client(upgrade 8i client to 10g
instant client)
=======================================================
1. Check whether c:\orant\bin\oip8.dll file exists(To check whether you
have Oracle 8i client installed under c:\orant)
2. Close all the programs
3. Rename c:\orant as c:\orant_8i
4. Download orant.zip(10g Oracle instant client) from http://ecollab.mis
.amat.com/livelink/llisapi.dll?func=ll&objId=18247172&objAction=browse&sort=name
5. Unzip to path c:\ (zip file will make a new folder and extract all fi
les to C:\orant)
6. Append C:\orant to PATH (set PATH=C:\orant%PATH%) and set ORACLE_HOME
to 10g instant client directory (set ORACLE_HOME=C:\orant) in LOACAL v
ariables.
7. Make a test connection to database to validate the installation
(sqlplus testinstantclient/AMAT123#@dbaprd).
On a successful test connection follow below steps. In case of Failur
e go to Exit 10
8. Remove C:\orant\bin from PATH and append c:\orant to PATH in SYSTEM e
nvironment variables
(DO NOT Remove existing path, instead append to the existing PATH)
9. Export registry information of "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE".
Remove Registry keys related to oracle 8i client installation.
a) Replace Data when matches from "Oracle - OraHome81" to "Oracl
e - OraHome10g" for Value "ORACLE_GROUP_NAME" under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
\ORACLE\HOME0"
b) Replace Data when matches from "OraHome81" to "OraHome10g" fo
r value "ORACLE_HOME" under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME0"
c) Remove value "SQLPATH" when matches data "C:\orant\dbs" under
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\HOME0"
d) Remove "OO4O" (Parent Key) when matches "OO4O_HOME=C:\orant\o
o4o" under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\OO4O"
e) Remove "OLEDB" when only "ORACLE_HOME" installed earlier is "
OraHome81"
f) Replace Data when matches from "OraHome81" to "OraHome10g" fo
r value "NAME" under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\ALL_HOMES\ID0"
g) Remove value "NLS_LANG" when matches data "NA" under "HKEY_LO
CAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\ALL_HOMES\ID0"
h) Replace Data when matches from "OraHome81" to "OraHome10g" fo
r value "DEFAULT_HOME" under
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\ALL_HOMES"
10. Make a test connection to database to validate the installation (sql
plus testinstantclient/AMAT123#@dbaprd).
On a successful test connection follow below steps. In case of Failu
re go to Exit 20
 11. Restore sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora files from backup location
(copy C:\orant_8i\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora C:\orant\network\ADMIN;
copy C:\orant_8i\NETWORK\ADMIN\sqlnet.ora C:\orant\network\ADMIN)
12. Copy System DLL files required for ODBC connection
(copy c:\winnt\system32\mfc71.dll c:\orant; copy c:\winnt\system32\m
svcrt.dll c:\orant; copy c:\winnt\system32\msvcr71.dll c:\orant)
13 Update registry for "Oracle ODBC Driver"
a)Replace Data when matches from "C:\orant\BIN\SQORA32.DLL" to "
C:\orant\SQORA32.DLL" for Value "Driver" under
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\Oracle ODBC Driver"
b) Replace Data when matches from "C:\orant\BIN\SQORA32.DLL" to
"C:\orant\SQORA32.DLL" for Value "Setup" under
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\Oracle ODBC Driver"
c)Replace Data when matches from "03.51" to "10.2.0.3.0" for Val
ue "DriverODBCVer" under
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\Oracle ODBC Driver"
14) Test you application/database(your regular tasks). Document any
issues.
EXIT 10

1) Delete the folder C:\orant

2) Rename folder c:\orant_8i as c:\orant

EXIT 20
1) Delete the folder C:\orant
2) Rename folder c:\orant_8i as c:\orant
3) Import Registry information of "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE" (
with over write option)
