2 iQ Check Tool v2 Setup Guide

Setup Procedures

For EFI Fiery Colour Servers – Production Colour 3

Prepare
 Model 1. Download and
 Version install it
Aim: Correctly load the iQ Check Tool v2 on your RIP
Let’s check the steps so far (you may have performed these already):
55 Check your system details: The printer model number may be shown on the front of your printer
(eg. Color 1000 Press) and you can access the RIP version in Command Workstation (CWS) v5.x by
selecting Device Center > General > Setup Summary and observe, under the “Server Information”
section (top), for “Version” and “Fiery System”.
55 Go to http://onlinesupport.fujixerox.com/iqct, click on the “How to Download and Install...”
link and follow the prompts for your RIP. Your printer model and RIP version is shown in the iQCT v2
Supported Products table. You can also download the Fiery Archive from this page.
iQCheckToolv2-FIERY-ProdCol-EN.zip
55 Expand the downloaded zip file onto the RIP desktop: double-click the ZIP file and drag the
iQ_Check_Tool_v2 folder from the opened window to the desktop.
55 Print this Setup Guide (or read it electronically). You are now ready to follow the setup instructions.
iQ Check Tool v2-SETUP GUIDE (FIERY)-ProdCol-EN.pdf

2. Load the
stock
Aim: Load the “centreline” stock in any tray
The recommended “centreline” stock that is tested and approved for printing the iQ Check Tool v2 on is:
Xerox SRA3 120-170gsm Colotech+ Silk/Gloss Coated (Silk 120gsm Part number: 003R90357)
This stock has a CIE Whiteness of 130.
Using any other stock may produce unexpected printed results and may invalidate the test elements
contained in the iQ Check Tool.

3. Calibrate
the printer
Aim: Calibrate the printer to the correct paper weight and type
To ensure your printer is producing colour at its optimum level, you must first calibrate the printer to
the recommended “centreline” stock. Please calibrate to the closest Coated weight range available on
your RIP. For example, if you load 140gsm stock, choose 120gsm if that is the nearest Coated weight
available. Note: If you receive a “Mismatch” warning it is OK to proceed anyway.
If you previously calibrated the printer to a different stock containing a different white point (eg.
Uncoated or non-Xerox stocks) you must re-calibrate on the centreline stock.
Please consult your RIP user manuals for instructions on how to calibrate your printer. Helpful tips on how
to obtain the best calibration results can also be found in the online iQ Check Tool v2 knowledgebase
(see link on Pg.2), then click on the “Solutions for: Printer Calibration Tips” link.

4. Load the
ICC profile
Aim: Check, then import the provided ICC profile if not already loaded.
The colour management job properties of the iQ Check Tool v2 PRINT file require that the ISO Coated
v2 (ECI) ICC profile (correctly named) to be installed BEFORE the PDF is imported so that the RGB and
CMYK strips of the kids image will match correctly.
This profile has been provided as part of the iQ Check Tool download bundle (filename: ISO Coated v2
(ECI).icc). The profile’s name should exactly match “ISO Coated v2 (ECI)” when loaded on your RIP.
To load the profile (if it is not already there), please open Command Workstation (CWS) v5.x and go to –
Device Center > Resources > Profiles and simply drag the profile into the “CMYK Source Profiles” list.

5. Import the
iQ Check Tool Archive
Aim: Import the Archive file into the Fiery server (File > Import Archived Job...)
For Fiery systems, the iQ Check Tool v2 PDF is provided within a Fiery Archive job folder which has been
pre-configured with all the required job settings for you to simply import then print. The archive name is:
iQ Check Tool v2-PRINT-ProdCol-EN
Caution: Choose “Import Archived Job...” from the CWS File menu then “Add...” the iQ_Check_Tool_v2
folder (from Desktop) to the Directories panel. The iQ Check Tool v2-PRINT-ProdCol-EN archive will then
appear in the lower panel for selection.
Note: You may need to manually change stock settings (default weight is set to 120gsm) or any desired
finishing options (default is to top tray) before printing (see Troubleshooting section if problems arise).

Print and Check
6. Release
the Prints
Aim: Submit the iQ Check Tool for printing.
The job properties are set to print 5 copies. This is to allow your printer to warm up and to produce more
accurate and consistent printed results. Use the last copy out of the printer for your observations.

7. Observe
the Output
Aim: Check the printed pages for image quality issues.
Observing the 5th printed copy, are there any visible image quality problems? Did the problem you were
having with your own files go away? You can also review the other prints to check for consistency.
For further assistance please check the suggestions outlined on the back of each iQ Check Tool v2 page
or for more advanced-level information, including steps on how to potentially resolve your issue, please
consult the online iQ Check Tool v2 User Guide (refer to pg2).

Advanced Option
Printing with
Pure Colours
Aim: Change the colour management for the TECHNICALS page only.
When using the default iQ Check Tool v2 job Properties, the C-M-Y-K swatches and gradients located on
the TECHNICALS page will not print as solid, pure C-M-Y-K, but will simulate ISO Coated v2 (ECI). See the
online User Guide article for these patches for more information. In order for the C-M-Y-K colours to print
as they are designed in the file (as solid/pure) you can do the following before printing it:
a. In the Job Properties window click Colour >Basic or Advanced and set:
• CMYK/Grayscale Source to “Bypass Conversion”
• Separate RGB/LAB to CMYK Source = OFF.
b. Close the Color Management window
c. Print page 3-4 only (Pg1-2 is not required for this test).
Note: the RGB and CMYK strips in the image of the children will no longer match each other.

iQ Check Tool Job Settings
The below table provides only those settings which are required for the iQ Check Tool v2 to print
correctly. All other settings (not mentioned) remain as system default settings and should not adversely
affect the printed output.

However, some names may differ on different RIPs, even though they essentially perform the same
function. Some names or locations of features may change when the RIP software is updated to a
newer version. For this reason please consider the below settings as a reference only as the names may
not exactly match your RIP. If you require any assistance, please contact your Fuji Xerox Technical
Representative.

Troubleshooting Issues
Manual Setups
If you are having troubles with the automated-setup process (ie. importing the archive file), you can
import the iQ Check Tool v2 PDF into the Fiery server and manually enter all job settings (found under
“iQ Check Tool Job Settings” on Pg.8 of this guide). The iQ Check Tool v2 PDF can be located by:
οο downloading from the Fuji Xerox Support website (see Pg.4). Look for the link to “Manual
Install for Fiery Colour Servers”; or
οο Double-click the Fiery Archive folder on your Desktop and copy the largest file (approx 7.8MB)
located inside to the Desktop. Rename the file “iQ Check Tool v2-PRINT-ProdCol-EN.pdf”
Known Issues
Media weight and Media Coating values missing
For some systems (eg. 700 Digital Color Press, the DocuColor 8080 and iGen150 press) the Coating
and Weight Range fields may show as blank after importing the Fiery Archive file into Command
WorkStation. Please choose the correct weight for your loaded stock and set as “Coated” paper prior to
printing.
