WRITTEN COMMUNICATION
Ground Rules
DESCRIPTION : Session designed around the importance of communication on the digital platforms.
We aim to highlight and discuss the various complications faced by individuals while using different
social engagement platforms. The problems addressed are tones, vocabulary,formal and informal
pitch on different platforms, character demeanor,conversation starter, persona understanding etc.
Quick tips, tools and apps will make a significant part to assist students with easy tactics.
PURPOSE : To aware students about the various digital community platforms and their relevance.
Empower students with quick tools and resources to improve and strengthen their writing
communication habits on these platforms
OUTCOME : Increased comfort level to understand different characters and profiles on different
mediums like LinkedIn and Google Plus. - Ability to develop similar yet distinct profiles on different
channels

(People often fear the writing process because of three main reasons:
1. Negative orientation
2. Risk of failure
3. Fear of the unknown )
Understand who, what, where, when, why, and
how as features of writing purpose.
The following twelve-item checklist, adapted here, serves as a useful reminder of the importance of
preparation in the writing process:
1. Determine your general purpose: are you trying to inform, persuade, entertain, facilitate interaction,
or motivate a reader?
2. Determine your specific purpose (the desired outcome).
3. Make sure your purpose is realistic.
4. Make sure your timing is appropriate.
5. Make sure your sources are credible.
6. Make sure the message reflects positively on your business.
7. Determine audience size.
8. Determine audience composition.
9. Determine audience knowledge and awareness of topic.
10. Anticipate probable responses.
11. Select the correct channel.
12. Make sure the information provided is accurate, ethical, and pertinent.

Let us begin with a college student’s e-mail to a professor: “i am confused as to why they are not due intil 11/10 i
mean the calender said that they was due then so thats i did them do i still get credit for them or do i need to due
them over on one tape? please let me know thanks. also when are you grading the stuff that we have done?”
