startup
Article ID: KB959093

Applies to
Content Server 10.0.0, 10.5.0

Summary
In Content Server, after startup, one or more Enterprise Index Engines reports Process Error 132
("Unknown Error").

The Enterprise Index Engine(s) fail with Process Error 132 shortly after start up. The Enterprise
Update Distributor in the Enterprise Data Flow Manager reports "Waiting for Index Engines".
Repeated restarts or the affected Index Engine(s) does not resolve the error, even if the Content
Server Admin service is restarted.

Resolution
The maximum disk space allocation for the affected Partition has to be increased. This can be done
in the Enterprise Data Source Folder > Enterprise Partition Map. Here, click the Function menu of
the affected Partition and go to Properties > Specific. Increase the Maximum Content Disk Size
value. (Do not increase the Maximum Metadata Memory Size - this specific condition does not
require an increase of that setting).

Cause
The default the maximum disk space allocation for each Index Partition is 50 GB. This is typically
more than enough but occasionally, a condition may arise when there some files in the each index
fragment may get quite large (3 - 4 GB each) and the compaction, which is triggered when each
Index Engine is restarted, cannot continue because the partition is temporarily out of disk space.

In order to determine what the problem is, the Index Engine logs have to set to Info level. Then, an
error identical to the above appears in the logs. The number 32742 (as in "Can't impact 32742)
indicates the fragment that cannot be compacted.
