The Trinity in Scripture

Trinity: Within the one being or essence that is God, there has been revealed to be
at least three co-equal and co-divine distinct persons — namely the Father, Son and
Holy Spirit — who share that essence fully and completely. (1Adonai 2Eloheinu
3Adonai Echad)

Preface: All of the following seem to be taught in scripture. The above definition of the
trinity is derived from the attempt of finite humans through the centuries to reconcile the
following passages and more without contradiction. If another explanation besides the
trinity can as powerfully and thoroughly explain these passages without eisegesis or
fallacious reasoning, or a defeater argument showing the invalidity of the trinity is proven
sound, then I will concede my confidence in the trinity and be tentative as I continue to
examine all of the evidence. I think it also must be clarified, but the humanity of Yeshua
is completely recognized and compatible with the concept of a trinity. Yeshua was truly
man & truly God. One does not need to understand how something works to know that
something is. Shalom, and happy testing!

The Holy Spirit is God

If YHWH could be 2 persons in one being, I suppose on that background information it is
not unfathomable for the Holy Spirit to also be divine. Here are a few verses I think
distinguish the Holy Spirit from an impersonal force. A few examples of personhood
attributes like being lied to, giving instruction, claiming authority, experiencing grief,
having a will, having knowledge, & being blasphemed against.

Acts 5:1-10, Acts 13:1-2, Ephesians 4:30, 1 Corinthians 12:11, 1 Cor 2:10-11, Mark 3:29,
Psalm 139:7-10, Hebrews 9:14

The Trinity as 3 distinct persons

Not 3 gods, not 3 modes. Only one “What” and three “Whos” simultaneously.

Matthew 3:16-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-22, John 1:32-34

Hints in the Tanakh

Not a thorough or complete picture of the triune nature of God, but what had been
revealed thus far seems to hint toward a more complex unity within God.

1. Plural Words: Genesis 1:26, Gen 3:22-23, Gen 11:7-8, Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah
6:8, Ecclesiastes 12:1
2. Manifestations: Genesis 16:7-13, Gen 18:1-33, Gen 21:17-21, Gen 22:6-18, Gen
24:7 & 40, Gen 31:10-13, Gen 32:24-30, Gen 48:15-16, Exodus 3:1-16, Exo
13:21 & 14:19, Exo 23:20-24, Exo 24:9-11, Exo 32:34-33:23, Num 22:22-28,
Joshua 5:13-6:2, Judges 2:1-5, Jud 6:11-23, Jud 13, Isaiah 6:1-8, Isa 63:9, Daniel
3:24-26,

The Trinity Formula

A reoccurring pattern is to express these three persons in a complimentary fashion or
under the same umbrella.

Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 20:28, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Ephesians 3:14-17, 1 Peter 1:1-2,
Hebrews 9:14, Jude 20-21
