•3.3.2.3 (New)
3.4.5 (New) Install 3/8th inch thick protective plates or pads under swing V
pipe ends, roof supports, and any other appurtenances that could strike
bottom. Seal Weld plates and pads to the bottom with full fillet
welds.
3.5.1 (Add) Regardless of material group, tanks with capacities of 100,000 barrels or V
greater should have butt-welded annular bottom plates that satisfy
requirements specified in Paragraph 3.5 of API 650. Where erection is on
a concrete ringwall, the Contractor notches the ringwall to accommodate
the backing strip without visible distortion of the bottom plates.
3.6.2.1 Do not increase the tensile stresses in accordance with Table 3-2
Note (a).
3.8.9.1 (New) For stair and floating ladder treads and platform decking use either V
plain steel plate (subsequently to be painted with a non skid coating
by Company - see Paragraph 13.4.4) or hot dipped galvanized steel
serrated grating, as specified on the Tank Data Sheet. Do not use
checkered steel plate. Use only steel serrated grating in locations
where ice and snow may present a slipping hazard on plate.
Serrated gratings must meet the requirements of Specification
CIV-EG-398 and have bearing bars at least 3/16 inch thick. If stair
treads are bolted to stringers use only galvanized bolts, rivets, etc..
Unless otherwise specified, completely seal weld all around stair
treads and and platforms to stringers or tank shells. Minimize the
number of field welds between galvanized grating and stingers.
Blast abrasively and wire brush thoroughly all field welds where
approved by Company, and primed.
3.8.9.2 (New) Provide a landing in the circumferential stairway at the wind girder level V
where wind girders are designed as walkway and equipped with a
handrail.
3.8.9.3 (New) Construct all platforms and stairs in accordance with the design V
details shown on Drawing GD-M13966, GF-D99639, and GF-M99645, and
the requirements listed below. Materials must conform to the requirements
of Specification CIV-EG-398. Minimum headroom clearance must not be
less than 7 feet-0 inch.
3.8.9.4 (New) Design all platforms and walkways for a minimum load not less than 40 psf live load V
or 1000-pound concentrated load. Do not exceed 1/2 inch deflection under
design loading. The unobstructed width must be at least 30 inches normally and
36 inches in front of manways and similar openings. Gaps between floor plates
resting on structural members must be less than 1/2 inch. Interconnect adjacent
platforms that are 2 inches or less apart in plan, or 18 inches or less apart in
elevation.
3.8.9.5 (New) Set platform elevations to permit the tread and riser dimensions as V
shown on Drawing GF-D99639.
3.8.9.8 (New) For circumferential tank stairs use handrails in accordance with Drawing V
GF-D99639. For all other stairs and platforms, use handrails with midrails
and toe boards in accordance with Drawing GF-M99645. Handrails must
clear all obstructions by a minimum of 3 inches. Avoid attachments to
handrails , but where absolutely necessary make them so that they will not
obstruct proper use of the handrail.
3.8.9.9 (New) Support stair treads with stringers on both sides and spaced V
away from the tank shell far enough to install a full thickness of
insulation fit-up. An inside stair rail is required if the gap between inside stair
stringer and insulation/shell exceeds 6 inches.
•3.8.10.4 (New) Completely seal weld all plates, clips, and structural shapes on wind girders, V
fixed roofs and tank shells. Completely seal weld the top and bottom edges of
all wind girders to the shell.
3.9.4 (Exc) For tanks greater than 120 feet in diameter, design the top wind girder V
as a walkway 3-1/2 feet below the top edge of the tank and with a
minimum unobstructed width of 24 inches. On the outboard side use a
handrail, midrail, and toe board in accordance with Drawing GF-M99645.
When the wind girder has a vertical flange, it can serve as a toe
board. Design wind girders that function as walkways for a live
load of 40 psf. Provide adequate drainage on all wind girders
servings as walkways or on all wind girders having turned up vertical flanges.
•3.9.6.1 (Add) Project data. Design wind velocity per BEDD sheets.
3.10.2.5 (Add) V
3.10.2.5. Do not use a frangible joint if it results in an increase in
shell weight.
3.10.4.8 (New) Roof support columns shall be firmly guided to a height of at least 8 inches, V
using 3/8-inch minimum thickness clips attached to the tank bottom.
Where loads of roof support columns are transferred to the tank bottom,
adequately distribute these loads , either by a 3/8-inch thick plate
or by structural shapes. Either method distributes the load over a
square area, the plan dimensions of which shall be at least twice the major
cross-sectional dimension of the column and large enough to
accommodate the column base where one is used. Make these plates or structural
shapes at least six times the bottom plate thickness from any joint
in the bottom plates.
•3.11.1 Specify if for other than for a wind pressure based upon a wind speed of 100
miles/hr.
•5.2.1.13 (New) Do not permit single pass butt welds and single pass bottom plate lap welds. V
This may be waived where bottom conditions permit and the
contractor has a proven track record . Do not permit weld passes exceeding 3/4 inch
nominal thickness.
5.2.3.1 (Add) Offset adjacent shell courses to provide nominal alignment at the V
inside surface.
9.0 (New) The following additional requirements apply only when specified in the V
Contract to which this specification is attached.
9.2 (New) Prime the pickled or abrasive blasted external (convex) plate surface V
to within 2 inches of the plate edges. Primers can be an inhibited
alkyd (Code P-7) or an inorganic zinc primer (Code P-12) as specified by
the Company (see COM-EF-872A or B for acceptable brands). Upon
Company approval of the surface preparation prime the external surfaces
with an acceptable primer after rolling. Thoroughly remove any primer within 2
inches of edges prepared for welding.
9.3 (New) Design any tank heaters to hold the product at the minimum V
storage temperature specified by Company when the tank is 3/4 full. For
design calculations, Company specifies average wind velocity and
minimum average temperature over an extended period of time. Design tank
manway heaters, if specified by Company, for removal
without entry into the tank by personnel.
9.4 (New) When shell is to be insulated, install a bottom insulation support ring V
per Standard Drawing GD-N1081 and GD-N99995.
10.1 (New) The requirements of this section apply to tanks or parts of tanks V
constructed of "moderate strength materials," defined as the materials
of Groups I, II, III and III-A of Table 2-3 of API-650.
