QUESTION ONE: The report of the World Commission on Environment and

Development entitled Our Common Future (WCED, 1987) is widely considered to have
been a key in putting sustainable development firmly into the political arena of
international development thinking.
a) State and discuss THREE (3) components/dimensions of Sustainable Development
proposed by the proponents of Sustainable Development (6 Mrks).
b) With relevant examples, discuss Five (5) major roles Civil Society Organizations
(CSOs) can play in ensuring achievement of sustainable development by 2030 in terms
of agitation, information, and the distribution of resources (10 Mrks).
c) With relevant examples, explain in detail FIVE (5) key factors governing sustainable
development in the modern society which need to be considered by any institution
engaged in development initiatives (10 Mrks).

 d) Briefly explain Four (4) Principles of Good Governance proposed and stipulated in the
policies of Multilateral Financing Institutions (MFIs) for their adherence geared
towards ensuring achievability of Sustainable Development Goals come 2030 (4 Mrks).

QUESTION TWO: The Government of Puntland has put in place Environmental Impact
Assessment Policy and Procedure to guide in any development intervention and initiatives
undertaken by both the private and the public institutions. The Ministry of Environment
and Climate Change selected you to lead a team of Environmentalist to conduct
Environmental Impact Assessment in Burintle District of Nugal Region where Puntland
Petroleum Company is establishing a petroleum depot, discuss the Environmental Impact
Assessment Process you and your team should follow to collect quality data and generate
genuine Environmental Impact Assessment information to guide the government to make
informed decision (10 Mrks).

QUESTION THREE: List down Nine (9) ways to achieve sustainability in

development initiatives undertaken by the government and/or other stakeholders of
development in a community (10 Mrks).

QUESTION FOUR:Evaluate Five (5) major characteristics of Environmental Impact that

helps government institutions and other stakeholders to formulate future desirable polices,
law and strategies to promote sustainable development (10 Mrks).

QUESTION FIVE: With relevant examples, discuss three (3) major determinants of
Sustainable Development that encompasses on the spheres of Sustainability of modern
development in which resources are scarce to satisfy the growing human population and
needs in 21st Century (10 Mrks).
