Degree Details
I am currently at Sheffield Hallam University in my Second year studying
Marketing.
Modules included in this course are: Advertising and Promotion, Business
Analysis, Business Environment, Understanding and Managing Customers,
Marketing Research and Managing Resources.
In my third year I will be completing a year long industrial placement. I am
really looking forward to this and hope to be placed in a relatively large and
well known organisation. I am extremely interested in the dynamics of the
marketing function and working with others. The thought of placement is
exciting especially the thought of learning at a fast pace. I would like to get as
much work experience as possible which will help prepare me for the world of
full-time employment and hopefully make me more attractive to employers.
I hope to achieve a 2:1 degree, which will take a lot of hard work and
determination.

Summary of employment:

June 2007- December 2010 Webbs of Wychbold

Position: Restaurant assistant

I began working when I was 16 at a local garden centre in the restaurant

department. This was a learning curve for me, I picked up different skills
quickly and was soon able to carry out a wide range of roles within the
restaurant such as serving food, making speciality coffee’s, operating tills and
most importantly serving customers. I was loyal to the company in many ways
such as working many shifts in additions to my normal scheduled ones. This
summer I worked all through the holiday right up until a few days before I
returned to university. During other university holidays I also worked shifts. I
am very proud of my excellent timekeeping record at Webbs.

This summer I approached the marketing department at Webbs to see if there

were any opportunities for me to gain experience in the area. I was offered
work helping with promotions which I really enjoyed.

One of the many skills I gained whilst working at Webbs was how to cope
when under pressure. For example this summer when the restaurant was very
busy, both staff and customers became agitated due to additional and
increased waiting times for customers. This resulted in all of the staff pulling
together as a team and staying calm so that customers could be served as
quickly and as efficiently as possible.
