Microsoft Team FAQ

(Note: These FAQs are prepared for the Educational Institutions and
online classes in mind. Some answers might also be relevant VIT)

1. What is Microsoft Teams?


Microsoft Teams is a messaging App for teams/online classes where all
conversations, meetings, files, and notes can be accessed by students, all in one
place.

2. What is a Team? (In Class point of View)


Team is a class for a particular class in VIT environment where teacher and students
can communicate, collaborate each other.

3. How do I add members in bulk?


This option is not added in MS Teams yet. However, you can use Invite Code feature
and share with your students to join in your class/team.

4. How to recover deleted Team?


You cannot recover a deleted team/class!

5. What is a channel?
A dedicated section within a team to keep conversations organized by specific topics.
In class environment, Channel can be created for a specific module in syllabus, an
activity of the LAB Course, or any specific topic you want to focus on.

6. What is the difference between private channel and public channel?


Private channel is for a specific student in a team/class whereas public channel for all
students in your class.

7. How do I send a private message? (@mention)


You can use @username in conversation area to send message to a specific student
or group of students.

8. Can I make one-on-one calls?


Yes, you can use calls tab in MS Teams to make one-on-one calls.

9. What are team meetings?


A meeting can be used for conducting synchronous class (Live) with your students.
Meeting can be Live or scheduled one. Since, you have predefined workload in
semester, it is recommended to schedule meetings for your classes in MS Teams.

10. How can I schedule a meeting with Teams?


You can schedule a meeting with calendar tab.

11. What are the Roles and their Capabilities in an online meeting?
Teacher and Student. Teacher has more control like screen sharing, sharing white
board, recording, and adding class notes. Students will have limited features like
using web camera and Mic for attending meeting.

12. How to make student or another participant as a Presenter?
Right click on a student name in participant list and then choose "Make as Presenter"
option during meeting.

13. How to change your background?


Go to More Actions (...) and then choose "change your background".

14. How to download attendance report? (only during meeting!)


Attendance can be downloaded from participant list window during meeting.

15. What is the difference between quiz and forms?


Both are very similar; forms will not have points/marks and correct answer.

16. How to create a quiz or form?


You can use https://forms.office.com in browser and login with VIT credentials (used
for login with Team).

17. How to conduct POLL during live class?


You can use form plugin to conduct Live Polling. This feature can also be used for
capturing attendance.

18. Is Microsoft Teams only accessible from my browser?


Yes, But MS Teams Desktop App is recommended for seamless access.

19. How can Team be accessible in Mobile Phone?


You can install MS Team app from Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).
