Introduction to the First Three Modes of the Seven Musical Modes

I. Lesson Background

This lesson focuses on the three musical modes namely Dorian ). These will help in

developing the student’s visual, aural, singing, and reading skills in identifying the said intervals.

The teacher will be using “Perfect Ear” (a downloadable Mobile App) in discussing the lesson.

II. Objectives

Students will:

 Learn the concepts of the intervals (Major and minor 3rds)

 Learn to recognize the intervals aurally and visually

 Learn to differentiate the sounds of the two intervals by singing

III. Competencies

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

1. Define the concepts of the intervals

2. Identify visually and aurally the intervals of major thirds and minor thirds

3. Read and sing the notation of the intervals (Major thirds and minor thirds)
IV. Materials and Equipments

1. Perfect Ear Application (Downloaded from mobile phone)

2. Speaker

3. Chalkboard with Staff

4. Extension Cord

5. Piano/Keyboard

V. Procedures

1. Review the past lesson about the intervals.

2. Introduce the new lesson. (Identifying Intervals Major 3rd and Minor 3rd) using Perfect

Ear).

3. Introduce the Mobile App that you will use in the discussion.

4. Discuss the characteristics of the two intervals (Quantity and Quality) and notate them on

the chalkboard with staff.

5. Demonstrate the sound of the two intervals using “Perfect Ear”. (Ascending, descending

and harmonic). Ask the students to repeat the sounds when doing the ascending and

descending by humming it.

6. Practice on how to identify Major and minor third intervals using “Perfect Ear”. (Drill)

VI. Assessment

 The teacher will give a short quiz so that she will know if the students understand

the lesson that they have discussed
