ARTICLE - State Sen. Terry Link leaves Lake County Democratic chairmanship more than two weeks

Longtime state Sen. Terry Link, the Vernon Hills Democrat who was charged earlier this month
with federal income tax evasion, resigned as chairman of the Lake County Democratic Party on
Saturday, amid calls from fellow Democrats he relinquish the leadership post immediately.

Link had previously announced his plan to resign as county party chairman effective Sept. 15, a
position he’s held since 1992, the timing of which drew a sharp rebuke from fellow party leaders,
who were planning to hold a tele-meeting Monday night to oust him as chairman.

The pushback over the timing of Link’s initially planned resignation date of Sept. 15 centered
around concerns that if Link, who remains a sitting member of the Illinois Senate, were to resign
his Senate seat after Sept. 11 but maintain his party chairmanship, a November special election for
the seat wouldn’t be triggered, giving him a narrow window to choose his successor.

In a resignation email sent to fellow Lake County Democratic Party leaders on Saturday, Link said
the party is “definitely in a better position” than when he took the helm in 1992.

“I have been a proud Democrat all of my adult life and will continue to be a proud Democrat until I
take my last breath,” Link wrote. “I sincerely hope that my successor builds upon what we have
collectively achieved, and I know in my heart I gave the party my all.”

A criminal information was filed in U.S. District Court on Aug. 13, accusing Link of not reporting
income on his 2016 tax return, making him the third Democratic state senator to face felony
charges in just over a year. Link resigned his position on the Legislative Ethics Commission shortly
after the tax evasion charge became public that day, and hasn’t spoken publicly since then.

The Tribune reported last year that Link wore a wire for the FBI as part of an investigation of
former Democratic state Rep. Luis Arroyo, who prosecutors said had sought a state senator’s
support on video gambling legislation that would have benefited one of his lobbying clients.

In the complaint against Arroyo, the unnamed state senator was identified only as “Cooperating
Witness 1.” The Tribune has reported that the senator was Link, which he repeatedly has denied.

Main Idea:

The main idea is about a tax evasion accusation that was given at the beginning of this
month but so far is in process, it is worth noting that this person is the president of the
democratic party which took control since 1992 and he claims that has improved since he
began his leadership until today, on August 13 evidence was presented against him, this
article is based on the status of the prosecution of the Democrat link which is being
accused of tax evasion and also to some extent on corruption that has been managed
under the table during these years but he says he has been a proud Democrat and never
would aria that in his adult life and forever maintaining its position, and to finish the court
last year Link used a cable to the FBI as part of an investigation of former Democratic state
representative Luis Arroyo

Point of view:
The article handles a good amount of information but does not transcend the process that
is carried out, nor does it adequately inform if he becomes guilty which will be the process
to follow, from my point of view is a good article but lacks something which catches the
reader seemed quite loose in the middle of the reading was not to my liking either
because I did not find something good which I am interested only is a story which is too
long in a way little exact use small paragraphs that are good to see the point of view of the
person but likewise the main idea is not striking for a general reader.
In conclusion, I did not like the article at all, whether it was for personal taste or because I
think it is very basic when it comes to showing the information, since they are talking
about a process that has been going on for almost 20 days and there is no concrete
response from the court, which leaves it more like a story than an article.
