MODULE TITLE: Introduction Human Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory
WRITER: ANNA LIZA B. ARMARIO, LPT

OPENING PRAYER

St. Thomas Aquinas: Prayer

before Study
Creator of all things,
true Source of light and wisdom,
lofty origin of all being,
graciously let a ray of Your brilliance
penetrate into the darkness of my understanding
and take from me the double darkness
in which I have been born,
an obscurity of both sin and ignorance.
Give me a sharp sense of understanding,
a retentive memory,
and the ability to grasp things correctly and
fundamentally.
Grant me the talent of being exact in my
explanations,
and the ability to express myself with
thoroughness and charm.
Point out the beginning,
direct the progress,
and help in completion;
through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

MODULE INTRODUCTION AND FOCUS QUESTION(S):

Most of us are fascinated the way the body functions which naturally calls for curiosity. This
curiosity is apparent even in infants when they look or touch their mother’s face and continuous as
they age where they oftentimes ask why questions about the body. However, an anatomy student
must learn how to identify body structures formally to simply understand how the body works.
In lecture module 1, it introduces the basic anatomical terminologies to describe different
body structure and location. In this module, you will be more familiar with the other important
anatomical terms which introduces you to gross anatomy, the study of the body structures you can
see with your naked eye. At the same, gives the idea of the various equipment’s/apparatus used to
study physiology. Furthermore, to fulfill your laboratory experience amidst pandemic, dissection
video is included. Through this, you will have a glance of the different organs of the body.
What are the different physiological apparatus and what are its function? What are the
different anatomical terms under gross anatomy? Can you apply your learnings in lecture with
regards to body planes? How does dissection is being done? Can you name the different organs of
the human body?

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

To do well in this module, REMEMBER the following:

STUDY

ACTIVITY 1: Anticipation Reaction Guide

Let us test your memory about the discussed concepts in module 1. Start by answering the first column of
the Anticipation Reaction Guide.

Instruction: Respond to each statement twice. Once before the lesson and again after reading the
discussion of the lesson
 Write YES if you agree with the statement
 Write NO if you disagree with the statement

Response Response
Before the Statement After the
Lesson Lesson
1. Anatomical position is important relative to
body’s direction.
2. Proximal and distal is the directional term use to
describe body structure relative to its point of
attachments.
3. The abdominopelvic cavity is divided into two
quadrants and further divided into six regions.
4. The body has two ventral body cavities, namely –
cranial and spinal cavity.
5. The human body has anterior and posterior body
landmarks.

At the end of this lesson go back to this ARG and answer the third column. Compare your
answer to your previous answer.

End of EXPLORE:
Your understanding will be increased as you study the lessons and perform the
activities in the RESEARCH phase.

ACTIVITY 2: Widen up your knowledge

Online: Download the additional learning materials posted in your google classroom and
review the learning materials used in module 1 lecture (CCN1) about the
language of anatomy.
Offline: The copy of the learning materials is attached at the end of this module.
Read, study, understand and reflect on the following questions.

Your main goal in this section is to familiarize the different terminologies in anatomy
and physiology:

 Anatomical position
 Body landmarks
 Directional terms
 Body planes
 Body cavities
Also, get to know the different physiological apparatuses used in laboratory:

 What are the different laboratory apparatus used in anatomy and

physiology?
 What are the functions of each laboratory apparatus?
 What are the parts of each laboratory apparatus?

End of RESEARCH
I know that you’re now ready and confident to face the succeeding chapters without
difficulty. But before that let’s see how much you comprehend.

Exercise 6: Case Study

Draw 2 kidneys on the bond paper as they would appear in the body. Shade in a spot on the
upper right edge of the kidney on the left. The drawing represents an X-ray of a patient sent to radiology
because of a suspected kidney tumor. The X-ray is an anterior view of the abdomen. The shading
represents a tumor. Describe the location of the tumor, using anatomical terms. Insert your drawing and
description inside the box.

Exercise 7: Actual Laboratory: Body Planes

The body is three-dimensional. So, to observe its internal parts, it often helps to make use of a
section, or cut made along an imaginary surface or line called a plane. In module 1, you have learned that
there are three types of body planes – transverse, frontal and sagittal. Using banana and orange show the
differences between the three types of planes and discuss the orientation of the internal structure.

End of ANALYSIS
Have you done well? If YES, you did a great job and if NOT review again the
section in which you had difficulty.
