Bloom’s Taxonomy – Writing Learning Outcomes/Objectives

1. Use the format, ‘upon completion of the course/session, the student will be able to *action verb* e.g. “on completion of this course/session, the
learner will be able to draw, explain and carry out outline of training design (planning process)
2. Learning objective should always be written from learners’ point of view – what s/he will be able to do – not what the teacher intends to do
3. There will usually be multiple learning outcomes/objectives for a program/course/session
4. Prohibited phrases – these phrases/words are prohibited in learning objectives/outcomes - to appreciate, to be exposed to, to understand, to be
introduced to, to sensitize, to examine, to know etc. These could, however, be used for writing overall (course) objectives.
