“Distance and Displacement”
Prepared By: Marer Grace G. Boaquina
Cooperating Teacher: Ma’am Pamela Salazar
I. Learning Competencies
After 60 minutes, students must
 Describe the motion of an object in terms of distance and displacement
II. Learning Content
A. Topic: Distance and Displacement
B. References K to 12 Curriculum Guide pp 116-117 Code: S7FE-IIIa-1
Science Learner’s Material pp 169-175
Science Teacher’s Guide pp 170-173
C. Instructional Materials
D. Concept
Many of the things around us move, some move slowly, some moves quickly, because motion is
common, it seems very simple to define. But in science, describing motion actually entails careful use of
some definitions. Motion is defined as the change in position over an interval of time. Motion will be
describe in terms of the positions of the moving object at different points in time or it’s distance
travelled over a period or it’s speed or travel.
E. Skills: Observing, Critical Thinking
F. Values Integration
III. Learning Strategy

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Good morning class! How was your holiday? Good morning ma’am. It’s fine ma’am

That’s good to hear then. So, what did you do in your holiday? We bonded with our family, hangout with
our friends

I’m happy that you’ve enjoyed your holiday class. Okay, kindly please (Learners are praying)
stand. May I request someone to lead the prayer
(After praying)
Who’s absent right now? If there’s any absent, please remind me Yes ma’am
later. So, I can record it okay?
(Collect assignments if there’s any)
Okay, everyone, settle please
Last quarter, you have learned about Biology. This time, you will be (Learners will share some insights about
learning about Physics. What do you know about Physics? physics)

Class, Physics is a branch of Science that studies matter and energy it

comes from a Greek word ‘knowledge of nature and it aims to
analyze and understand the natural phenomena of the universe

Now are you ready to learn about Physics? Yes ma’am

Our lesson today will be all about Describing Motion. Can anyone tell Motion is movement ma’am
me what is Motion class?

You have a point there, thank you so much. Motion is a continuous

change in position with respect to a reference point for a particular
time interval.
Many of the things around us move, some move slowly like the
turtles and the clouds others move much more quickly like the
cheetah. Motion is so common, it seems to be very simple.
This time, we will describe motion along in a straight path , motion of
objects in terms of position, path travelled and how fast it is.
So, are you ready? Yes ma’am

Before you will be able to describe the motion of an object, we must

first be able to tell exactly where it is positioned. Describing exact
position entails two ideas: describing how far the object is from the
point of reference and describing its direction relative to that point of
reference
What is point of reference?
Point of reference is…
So, to understand more what is Point of Reference. May I request (Learner will come to the front)
(call a student) please come here in the front.
(The teacher will instruct the learner to find a certain object while (Learner will have a hard time finding the
he’s/she’s blindfolded) object)
What do you observe class? He’s having a hard time finding the object
ma’am

So, what about this? (Teacher will ask again the student to find the
object but this time with direction)
Take 5 steps forward, face right take 3 steps and you’ll find a table
there.

So, what do you observe class? He found the object easily because there is
direction stated ma’am

Yes, very good. So, that what’s point of reference entails us. The
position of an object can be described in many ways. You can use
words, just like what we did earlier. We can also use visuals like
diagrams and graphs. Example for a diagram, the position of the ball
rolling.
(Insert picture of the diagram of ball in the book)
-What is the initial position of the ball? 0 meters
-What is its final position? 15 meters
-What is the position of the ball at 10 seconds? 10 meters
-At what time is the position of the equals to 5 meters? 5 seconds

Understand class? Yes ma’am

In science, motion is defined as the change in position for a particular
time interval. We can start describing motion with the question “How
far did the object travel?”

So, to understand what I’m saying. I’ll group you, please count into (Learners will be grouped into..)
Amorsolo (6 or 7)
Newton (12)
Edison (12)
Generosity (12 or 13)
All of the group will be composed of 3 members only. We will do an
activity outside. The activity will be called On my Way to..

-You’ll make a roadmap from the entrance of the school to the

designated building
-All you need to do is to Measure how far the path travelled from the
entrance gate to your designated building and how far the path
travelled in a shortcut route with direction from the entrance gate to
your designated building.
-Gather all the data that you will need for the roadmap
-Make sure that you take down notes of the name of the buildings
-Record your data properly

So, to measure the path, each of the group will be given a meter stick.
After you collect all the data, we will go back here in the room, you
will write the data you have gathered in a paper. I will give you each
a modified ruler that I made.

The scale will be 1m=1cm. So, that the data you have gathered can be Yes ma’am
written in your paper using your ruler. Understand?
(Teacher will give the corresponding building or room)

I’ll give you 10 minutes to complete the task. Are we clear? If I say Yes ma’am
time’s up, you have to go back in your room. No extensions. Are we
clear? The group that will fail to follow the given time will receive
deduction. Are we clear again?

And please, observe silence in doing the activity. Don’t forget to bring (Learners will do the activity)
your paper and pen with you. You may go now.
(After 10minutes) (Learners will go back to their room)

Now, that your already done gathering your data, in your paper, you
will transfer the data that you have gathered. Use the scale 1m=1cm.
I’ll give you this modified ruler, please handle it with care, because
the other section will use it too.
So, if you have any clarifications in transferring your data, I’ll show an
example.
(Teacher will show her example of the activity and explain how she
made it)
Understand? Yes ma’am
You may start now. I’ll give you 5 minutes to do it. (Learners start to work)
(After 5 minutes)
Times up! I’ll choose two groups to show their output (Teacher will (Learners report their output)
call a student)

(After the reporting of the output)

The rest of you, please pass your paper in the front because I’ll be the (Learners pass their papers)
one to check it. (Teacher will collect the papers of the student)

Tomorrow, we will evaluate your paper, also tomorrow I will discuss Yes ma’am
what is our activity all about. Understand?

This activity will serve also as your quiz today. The activity will be Yes ma’am
10pts same as your quiz. Is that okay?

Good bye class! Goodbye ma’am

IV. Evaluation (10pts)

The activity will serve as the evaluation
