Navy League of the United States

Founded in 1902 with the support of former President Theodore Roosevelt, The Navy League is the
foremost citizens’ organization to serve, support and stand with all U.S. sea services - the Navy, Marine
Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine.

The Navy League has three missions: to enhance the morale of active-duty personnel and their families;
to inform Congress and the American public on the importance of strong sea services; and to support
youth through programs such as the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, STEM and Scholarships that expose young
people to the values of our sea services.

Our members are the nation’s watchdogs for the sea services and track issues regarding military
preparedness, modernization and all other matters relative to maintaining U.S. strength at sea.
Additionally, we conduct educational programs about the needs of America’s maritime services and the
people who serve in them.

The Navy League serves as a public voice for the sea service community. It brings together many
military and veterans’ service organizations for mutual achievement of goals regarding legislative,
regulatory and educational concerns vital to the sea services. It is committed to educating members of
Congress about the needs of the sea services and how they impact the U.S. national security and the
global economy.

With a network of more than 245 councils representing more than 46,000 members around the globe, the
Navy League provides support to active duty personnel and families of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps,
Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine in many ways: through the “adoption” of ships, installations
and units to maintain and boost morale; sponsoring awards and recognition programs; hosting welcome
home and holiday celebrations; providing assistance to families; and sponsoring other programs
worldwide, that demonstrate heartfelt appreciation, care and concern.

The Navy League’s awards program offers much-deserved recognition to men and women of the sea
services and those who make their success possible. More than 40 awards are given annually for
professional excellence and academic achievement at the three service academies and the institutes for
advanced studies, such as the Naval War College. Over 150 awards are given annually to the top
graduating recruit as demonstrated through excellence during the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard
boot camps.

One of the most rewarding programs of the Navy League is the Navy League Scholarship Foundation.
The Navy League understands the importance of education and annually awards more than $50,000 in
scholarships and awards to children and grandchildren of current and former members of the Navy,
Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine. The 501(c)(3) Foundation was established
to expand the number of scholarships awarded annually.
