Statement of Purpose

Hello my name is Simant Thapa form Birendranagar 3, Surkhet. I’m a film student and currently studding
bachelor in film studies in Oscar international College. My specialization is Editing.

From my Childhood to till date now I had seen many movies in my life which always amaze me and make
me curious about that how does it make. Before joining the college, I had seen some nepali movies like
LOOT and KALO POTHI, I was completely awestruck by the seamless work of art that comprised the film.
The attention to detail, imagery symbolism and reality inherent in every aspect from writing to character
design, production to post production made it a work of art that was hard to forget. It was the movie
that inspired me to enter the field of film studies, and set me a determination to one day become a
filmmaker. The best movies make us question who we are and what we do long after the credit rolls,
and it is my goal to become a filmmaker that can induce that thoughts in audiences around the world.

As an aspiring film maker, I’ve sought to expand my skills into the realm of not only editing but writing
and direction. I’m a person who always love to be in imagination and create story through writing or
editing. It always satisfies me a lot. I’ve done so many class projects during college where editing process
always attracts me to create emotions and enhance story. I think from editing we can manipulate story
and its emotions and make audience focus on what we create and shown. During studies I also get
opportunity to edit some music videos and some advertisement for script writing workshop organized
by Nepal Film and Culture Academy(NFCA). I also get knew about many film festivals which shown in
Nepal and get honor to volunteer in NIFF (Nepal International Film Festival), KIMFF (Kathmandu
Mountain International Film Festival) and also work in technical department in NHRIFF (Nepal Human
Rights International Film Festival). I had successfully completed FIAF-approved WORKSHOP ON FILM
PRESERVATION STRATEGY FOR SAVING NEPAL’S AUDIO VISUAL HERITAGE by Frederic Maire and
Screenwriting Workshop organized by Nepal Film and Culture Academy (NFCA) as a Technician. For me
It’s always so much fascinated and amazing experience to study in film college because there we can
make friends who also have same passion and dedication for movies and we can make team for
excellent projects. It’s so much fun to hang out with friends, talk about movies, discuss about that,
breakdown making process and create story and practically trying to applying that. During college in first
year our team made a movie “If Nature Could Talk” which is selected in Italian film festival (Geo Film
Festival) and also in Nepal one of the respective film festival Nepal Human Rights International Film
Festival (NHRIFF).

I hope to complete my studies so that I can continue to pursue my passion and dream. In film school I
hope to further hone my skills in editing, learning from experienced professionals in the field how to
craft the perfect film. Through this experience I will further perfect my craft, and prepare myself to a
skillful editor for the big screen.
