PETITION to PRESERVE
Virginia History & Heritage
The history of Virginia is the history of America. Today that history and our heritage
are under attack. The purpose of this petition is to protect and preserve this proud
Virginia History and Heritage. By signing this petition you are demanding that Governor
Bob McDonnell stop his attack on our Virginia institutions. This is a call for Governor
McDonnell to remember that he represents Virginia and that he should desist with whatever
personal agenda he is pursuing.
Specifications:
2. Lee-Jackson Day:
Lee-Jackson Day has been a state holiday since 1904. Two finer examples of what it means to be
a Virginian and an American cannot be found than these two men. All recent Governors of both
parties have recognized their service to Virginia by issuing a proclamation. This proclamation has
always been issued well before the State designated holiday. This same proclamation is read at the
joint United Daughters of the Confederacy/Sons of Confederate Veterans ceremonies honoring
Lee and Jackson. This year there was no indication that Governor Bob McDonnell would issue
this proclamation. No certificate was issued and the proclamation could only be found on the
internet several days after the official holiday.
The signers of this petition demand that those elected to represent the Commonwealth of
Virginia do just that, represent Virginia. Specifically, we call for Bob McDonnell and George
Allen to put aside their personal agendas and to aid in the defense of the Commonwealth as
generations of Virginians have done before.
