How to misuse Water

There is little need to ask how water is misused, it just is, and quite easily with or without one’s
knowledge of it. With so many uses for it, there are that many more applications that could
shelter inefficiencies that would lead to waste. Even the simple and careless act of overuse can
be considered a misuse. To use water properly and at its highest level of efficiency is the best
way to save water, but it is difficult to understand where to start and how to attract attention.

The main problem associated with water use is the complete lack of numerical assignment that
would gather attention. It is unfortunate, but humanity seems only sensible when something
carries with it a monetary tie, that is, if people cannot actually see the value assigned to it they
tend not to recognize it. That’s just the way it is. Things might be different if there was a digital
display that tracked the volume used in a day compared to national and international trends that
may make one more conscientious. If that wouldn’t work, then a pay-per-use system that lets
people see how valuable water really is after it all adds up. If that was the new way of the world,
what changes might be seen?

In this theoretical world where water use is tracked visually, the first place change may occur
would be in the bathroom. Although people really love long showers, just how much water are
they letting go down the drain after a too brief period of use when that same shower could fill
how many bathtubs? If the objective is to simply take the dirt off, a shower can be over in a few
minutes, but if it is a drawn out process, the bath may be the better way to go. Less use is not a
misuse.

Washing the car for long periods of time, multiple times a week would be discouraged. It might
be cheaper at the car wash by letting someone else manage how much water is used. A similar
thing could be said for hand washing dishes and some clothes, though more times than not
machines are involved these days.

The big water wasters, those in agriculture, would have to reconsider their irrigation tendencies
by thinking of ways to keep the water in the soil or recovering evaporation. If the plants don’t get
the water, that is like throwing money into the wind. Some of it may return, but the rest is never
seen again.

From there on, there are any number of ways water can be overused and wasted when it may
have been avoided altogether. What people have to do to prevent water misuse is to simply be
aware of their use and for what purpose it serves. Stricter regulations and usage limits would
help conserve, but it shouldn’t have to be necessary. If people learn to be wise with water use,
they can slowly abate the problem until a solution is found.

Water Saving Tips

As water goes down the drain, so does your money.  Many people use a lot more water than they
need.  There are many different techniques that you can employ in order to save water, and many
of these are very easy and do not take a lot of effort at all.  The following are tips for saving
water at home.

Drip drip drip.

Many faucets in many homes leak.  Every drip that goes down is a waste, and yet some people
do not take the time to stop it.  Make sure that you do not have leaky faucets.  Although a drip
might just seem like a drip, over time, those drips do accumulate and it can add up substantially.
When you turn off the water, make sure that you do so completely, and that no water is coming
out.  You might want to check all of your faucets to be sure that none of them are having a
problem.

Do not take long showers

Some people just stay in the shower forever.  These can be nice, but they can let a lot of water
run out.  You may want to try to limit your shower time if you feel that you are using too much
water.  In addition, some people turn on their showers before they are actually ready to go into
the shower.  Try not to do that.  You want to only turn it on when you need it.

Use outside car washes instead of washing it yourself

You can use a lot of water when you give your own car a car wash by your home.  If you want to
use up less water at home, then you could consider bringing your car somewhere to get it washed
instead of doing it on your own.  Some professional car washes have techniques for not using too
much water, and this can help.

Try to maximize your washes and not use more water than is necessary

When you are using your washing machine, try to maximize the space.  Do not run an entire load
for just a few things if you can help it.  Also, make sure that you adjust the water level
accordingly.  Most washers will allow you to choose different levels of water based on the
amount of clothes in the machine – make sure that you change this if you need to.  It would be
quite the waste to have it set for the highest level if the smallest level would have been sufficient
for the amount of clothes that you had in there.

Save Water in HOME

Water is an important resource that is often taken for granted. Unfortunately the fact that it is
taken for granted means that it is often wasted both at work and at home. While there is not much
that you can do to stop others from wasting water there are some ways to save water in your own
home. By following a few simple tips you’ll be saving water in your home without a lot of effort
on your part.

Changing a Few Habits

Little things like brushing your teeth or doing dishes can be areas where you waste water. Filling
a cup to dip your toothbrush in and rinse your mouth will save water from going down the drain
while you brush. Especially if you’re in the habit of letting the water run down the sink as you
brush. Filling the sink with water to do the dishes saves more water than letting it run the entire
time that you’re washing them. You can fill the other side with water to rinse them. Taking
showers instead of baths is an easy way to save water; reducing the amount of time spent in the
shower will save additional water.

Faucets and Pipes

Checking the pipes and faucets for leaks then sealing those leaks will help you to save water
easily. Turning off water hoses at the faucet will prevent the hose from busting in the sun which
will save you water around the house. Low flow shower heads will use less water as well.

Stop Watering

Well, don’t stop watering your plants completely but you can stop watering the grass. It’ll grow
back with the next rain, not watering it can save you money on gasoline for your lawnmower.
You don’t have to water your plants every day only when they begin to dry out. Putting them in
an area that gets some shade will keep them wet longer. You can also catch rain water to use
instead of turning on the faucet. You can use the rain water you catch to rinse off an outdoor
patio as well.

Use the Water that You’re Heating

When you have to run the faucet to heat water put a small container under it to catch the water.
The water you catch (in a clean container) can be used to hand wash small articles of clothing
that you don’t want to put into the washing machine. You use it to rinse the floor when you don’t
have time to mop.

Saving water doesn’t have to be a hassle. It helps the environment and your wallet when you
save money.
