0019/20:

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARKING PERIOD UP TO 6 MO W/O FLIGHT AFTER 3 MO

NOTE: Here below the content is shown of the Technical Answer in the TA, allowing to keep an
aircraft in parking protection beyond three months without a renewal flight. It is based on the
A330, the text for the A320FAM is identical, except for the references. It is expected that the
content will be very similar for the A350 and A380 programmes as well.

Operators are requested to check, whether they are planning to adhere to the requirements
detailed below, before they request this kind of TA from Airbus:

Airbus concurs with the request for all A330 aircraft concerned (listed in the attached Excel-file) to let
them remain in parking preservation for up to six months without renewal flight after three months under
the following conditions:

1 The AMM task 10-10-00-555-801-A “Parking and Storage Procedure” work-steps marked in the
“PARK up to 1 month” or the “PARK more than 1 month” column have been applied.
All work-steps from AMM task 10-11-00-555-824-A “Parking Periodic Ground Checks” are being
performed as written, whenever due.
NOTE: If any work-step from AMM task 10-10-00-555-801-A or 10-11-00-555-824-A has not been
or will not be applied, a separate justification for this deviation will be required, as it would
not be covered by this TA.

2 The following tasks have to be added to AMM task 10-11-00-555-824-A “Parking Periodic Ground
Checks” at 1 month interval:
2.1 Operational Test of the Yaw Damper Actuation Ref. AMM TASK 27-26-00-710-803 (if
applicable: Mechanical rudder only);
2.2 Operational Test of the Rudder and Pedals Travel-Limitation Units Ref. AMM TASK 27-23-00-
710-802 (if applicable: Mechanical Rudder only);
2.3 Operational Test of the Rudder Trim Actuation Ref. AMM TASK 27-22-00-710-805;
2.4 Move the throttle control lever of the ENG 1 (2) to the MAX FWD THRUST STOP and back.
NOTE: Do not do the full Operational Test of the Throttle Control Unit.
NOTE: Overdue work-steps shall be done at the next opportunity with particular diligence,
recording all findings, even if rectified. In case of findings, please contact Airbus.

3 The following tasks have to be performed latest at the three month ground check, counted from the
latest flight:
3.1 Lubrication of Rudder Servo Control Tailstock Roller Bearing (Rudder Side) Ref. AMM TASK
12-22-27-640-810
3.2 Lubrication of Aileron Servo Control Roller Bearings Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-27-640-811
3.3 Lubrication of Elevator Servo Control Roller Bearing Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-27-640-814
3.4 Lubrication of THSA ball-screw Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-27-640-801.
3.5 The following tasks are furthermore recommended to be performed latest at the three month
ground check to improve the reliability of the aircraft at the return to service:
3.5.1 Cleaning and Protection of cables (applicable to mechanical commands only)
3.5.2 Hydraulic actuators external leakage check (in order to anticipate potential degradation).
3.5.3 THSA gearbox oil level check.
3.5.4 Hydraulic fluid sampling analysis (in order to prevent flight control components early damage
if fluid acidity is high).

4 Before the return to service, do the AMM task 10-30-00-554-806-A - Return to Operation After
Parking Period and add the following:
4.1 Check Oil Level of THS Actuator Gearbox Ref. AMM TASK 27-44-51-210-801;
4.2 Perform a non-revenue flight within the standard envelope.

5 Furthermore, for parking periods beyond four months from date of latest flight the following tasks
become due before the next flight:
5.1 Inspection and Operational Test of the Landing Gears
5.1.1 Do a detailed visual inspection of the Nose Landing Gear (NLG) Ref. AMM TASK 32-21-00-
220-801
5.1.2 Do a detailed visual inspection of the Main Landing Gear (MLG) Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-00-
220-801
5.1.3 Lubricate all the landing gears:
5.1.3.1 Lubricate the NLG Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-32-600-819
5.1.3.2 Lubricate the MLG Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-32-600-817
5.1.4 Clean all the actuator rods and apply a thin layer of Phosphate Ester Hydraulic Fluid-General
Power - - (Material Ref. 02ABA1).
5.1.5 Do an operational test of:
5.1.5.1 The Nose Wheel Steering (NWS) with the handwheel Ref. AMM TASK 32-51-00-720-801
5.1.5.2 The NWS with the rudder pedals Ref. AMM TASK 32-51-00-720-802
5.1.6 Functional Test of the Normal Extension and Retraction System Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-00-
710-801 and
5.1.7 Operational Test of the Free-Fall Extension with One Electrical Supply Ref. AMM TASK 32-
33-00-710-801.
NOTE 1: If the necessary equipment is not available to perform the tests of the Normal
Extension and Retraction as well as the Emergency (FreeFall) Extension (REFF
test) with the aircraft on jacks before the next flight, the operator can perform a
repositioning Flight (maximum 2 FC) with Landing Gears Down and Locked as per
the FCOM chapter PRO-NOR-SUP-LG-DN to a location where the REFF test can
be accomplished in accordance with the AMM.
NOTE 2: If an operator can apply neither of the methods mentioned above to perform the
REFF test, Airbus can provide a set of additional instructions that will allow the
operator to perform the REFF test as part of a Functional Check Flight (FCF). This
alternative is limited to aircraft that have been out of operation for LESS than twelve
months (counted from the day of the latest flight) and on which no repairs or
replacement of parts within the ATA 32 systems or any other ATA Chapter directly
affecting the ATA 32 system were performed during the parking/storage period.
5.2 Inspection and Operational Test of the Wheels and the Brakes
5.2.1 Replace all the wheels and send the removed wheels to the overhaul shop. This is to do the
inspection of the bearings and the General Visual Inspection (GVI) of the wheels of:

NOTE: On the condition that ALL the actions detailed in para. 5, including (as applicable) the
REFF test after a repositioning flight, are performed with NIL findings, the Landing Gears
are considered serviceable for continued revenue service operations.

6 The requestor is aware of the potential impact these deviations may have on the aircraft’s
condition, increasing the risk of findings that could lead to additional maintenance activities at the
time of return to service with logistic and economic impact. The requestor waives all rights to bring
any claims against Airbus relating to this TA:
