II. Content/Concept

An argumentative essay is a type of essay that presents arguments about both


sides of an issues. It is a genre of writing that requires the student to investigate a
topic, collect, generate and evaluate evidence and establish a position on the topic in
concise manner (http://ow.purdue.edu>essay_writing).

 Review on “Making a Definition”
 Showing an example of a definition by description

B. Exploration/ Motivation

Brainstorming

 Divide the class into five groups.


 Distribute questions for brainstorming.

Brainstorming Questions
1. Have you ever taken a ride in a public transportation with an
aggressive driver?
2. How did you feel?
3. What did you do?
4. In that situation of your encounter with the aggressive driver, did you
argue with the him?

Processing

1. What did you feel with the question?
2. How did you react with the situation?
3. What did you realize?
4. How did you argue with the driver of the transportation?
5. What are your insights/learning?
C. Explanation (25 min)

Argumentation in the action or process of reasoning systematically in support


of our idea, action or theory. (Relate this to the process question No. 4). In
writing, we call this as argumentative essay.
Distribute copy and let them read a sample of argumentative essay
entitled “Aggressive Driving Should Be Avoided”

3. What do you think are the parts and characteristics of an
