GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CONDUCT OF THE BRIGADA PAGBASA 2020

For Parents:
1. Please get one set of this reading material for your child to read and answer. A set of
this reading material will consist of (a) a general instruction page, (b) reading
selection A, and (c) reading selection B.
2. When your child is done answering, return this material to the adviser together with
the answer sheet of your child. The answer sheet to be used is a ¼ sized sheet of
paper only.

For Students:
1. Prepare with you a ¼ sized piece of paper and write your name on it. Divide your
paper into 2 sections. The first section will be labelled A with numbers 1-7 and the
second section will be labelled B with numbers 1-8.
2. You are to read 2 text selections. Both are not time bounded.
3. Once you are done, you will be answering set of questions with choices to choose
from. Write the letter of the correct answer.
4. Be sure to return your reading activity set with your answer sheets with it so your
parents can return this to your adviser for checking. Your answers will be checked
and recorded. But do not worry as this will not be part of your grade.

Reading Selection A

COVID-19 a disease caused by the virus SARS-Cov-2, is the name of a disease


which is causing a lot of problems around the world recently. The virus has spread because
infected people moved all over the world, not knowing that they have it. COVID-19 is a form
of coronavirus and it is so small that we can only see it with very powerful microscopes and
not with our eyes.

When someone with the virus coughs or sneezes, the virus can be forced out into the
air and on to people and nearby surfaces. When the virus enters the human body, it stays in
the lungs for a few days or weeks without the person knowing that they have it. When the
virus infects the lungs, it makes people feel unwell. It can give people a fever (high
temperature) and/or cough that does not go away.

How can we stay safe and beat COVID-19? We need work together and the way to
stop it from spreading is by limiting the amount of people we are near. It is important to
maintain a distance of more than 1 meter away from any person and wear mask at all times
especially in public places. We must cover our mouth with tissue or our elbow when we
cough or sneeze. It is also important to wash hands often for at least 20 seconds and
sanitize with alcohol if hand wash is not available. But the most important thing to do to
prevent the spread of the virus and to protect our family is to follow advice and to stay at
home as much as possible.

Reading Selection B

An ancient Greek mythical figure named Zeus was the most powerful of all the gods in
mythological stories. He was married to Hera, but they were not compatible. Sometimes, Zeus
wandered far away. Hera, feeling jealous, would follow him.
One day, Zeus asked his friend echo to assist him. He asked Echo to engage Hera in
conversation. This would permit Zeus his independence. When Hera realized what was being done,
she became furious. She willed Echo to silence for eternity, unless she was spoken to first. If she
were spoken to, she could only repeat what she heard verbatim.
Echo wandered off, angered by her transformation and at being silenced. Then she
encountered a handsome man named Narcissus. She fell in love with him, but he did not love her in
return, which saddened her. Echo began to fade away. According to legend, nothing was left but her
mournful voice. When we hear echo, it is said that we are hearing Echo’s voice.
