1. What is the problem? My best friend needs to absolutely pass the upcoming test,
because he hasn’t been doing so well at school up until now.
2. What are the options? 1st option: Study on his own so as to have no distractions. 2nd
option: Participate in a study group with me and some classmates and study together.
3. What are the disadvantages of each option? 1st option: He will have no motivation
and no one to ask if he doesn’t understand something. 2nd option: The study group
might end up talking about irrelevant things and be even more of a distraction.

What leisure activities can students do after school?

SPEAKING 2
Warm up:

2. Do you like your neighborhood?

1. What is the problem? My son is not doing well at school, his grades are falling.
2. What are your options? 1st option: I could forbid him from going to basketball
practice. 2nd option: He could continue going to basketball practice.
3. What are the advantages of each option? 1st option: More time to study and focus
on school subjects. 2nd option: He goes there to blow off some steam and relax from
all the stress at school.
4. What are the disadvantages of each option? 1st option: He will hate me for stopping
basketball practice, so he might act up and not study at all for school. 2nd option: He
will not put in effort in order to achieve better grades, since he will have nothing to
lose.

Is it better to take up group activities rather than activities for individuals? Can you

Warm up:
1. Are there many places near your area where you can hang out with your friends?
2. If you could change something about your neighborhood, what would that be?

1. What is the problem? As the mayor of this city, I want to do something to improve
your neighborhood, but my budget is low.
2. What are your options? 1st option: Have citizens from the area volunteer to clean
the streets and parks as well as plant more trees. 2nd option: Organize a street bazaar
with handmade items in order to raise money and upgrade the neighborhood.
What are the advantages of each option? 1st option: Citizens will work as a team,
promote cooperation. 2nd option: the bazaar will be entertaining and citizens will not
have to waste time as when volunteering.

Follow-up:
What can individuals do to help their city regarding the environment? (Volunteering,
plant trees, cleaning etc)

SPEAKING 4:
Warm up:
1. What would you like to study?
2. How do you spend your free time?

1. What is the problem? My son is going away for studies and he cannot decide if he
wants to live on his own.
2. What are the options? 1st option would be to rent a place on his own. 2nd option
would be to rent a place with his friend.
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each option?
Adv: 1st option: He will learn how to be responsible and punctual. 2nd option: He will
have a great time and won’t feel lonely.
Disadv: 1st option: He might get lonely and be in need of some company. 2nd option:
He might get carried away and not attend university.

Follow-up: Would you prefer to live with a friend or on your own? Why?
Some people say that having a roommate is very difficult at times. Why do you think
they say that?

SPEAKING 5:

2. What’s your opinion on online lessons?

1. What is the problem? I have a technical problem with my stove


2. What are the options? 1st option: fix it on my own 2nd option: call a technician to fix
it.
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each option? Adv: 1st option: I like
experimenting with new things and it’ll be a challenge for me. 2nd option: An expert
will do a better job and I will be left with more free time.
Disadv: 1st option: I might make things worse and end up spending twice the time and
money. 2nd option: Bringing a technician is costly.

Some people say that it is better to be taught by someone who is an expert rather than
be self-taught. What is your take on that?

1. What is the problem? There is a vacant building in the city. The municipality is in a
dilemma what to do with it.
2. What are the options? 1st option: Make it a musical instrument museum 2nd option:
Build a planetarium of some sort. Solar system museum.
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each option?
Adv: 1st option: students will learn about local music and culture, it will attract
tourists. 2nd option: It would be chosen by schools as a school excursion destination.
Disadv: 1st option: Not many students will be interested. 2nd option: It is not very
unique and related to local culture, so not many tourists will visit.
