Sucker fish aren’t very popular. This year the
fish in abundance was the Redhorse Sucker.
The fish spawned and grew more than years
before.

General Information
● The Robust Redhorse Sucker fish
inhabits the Savannah, Altamaha, and
the Pee Dee rivers
● The Fish eats mollusks, aquatic insects,
and crustaceans

● Robust Redhorse Suckers spawn during


April through early July
○ the eggs stay in the gravel
until they’re fertilized, when
they hatch the eggs stay until
they are able to survive on
their own
● In the Georgia Department of Natural
Resources the Robust Redhorse Sucker
is listed as Endangered
● Conservation efforts include having a
population in captivity and having them
protected under the Endangered Species
Act (there are agreements with state and
federal resource agencies, private
industries, and the conservation
community) called a Memorandum of
Understanding
