Essential interactive workshop – Wednesday 27 October 2010

IQPC’s workshops are unique opportunities to spend valuable time with industry experts. These interactive sessions are extended to ensure that you will get to the heart of the conference’s most critical issues and uncover practical solutions you can apply in your own company.

Post-conference workshop - Wednesday 27 October 2010

Reviewing new and state-of-the-art technologies in the engineering foundation industry for excavation of piles and soil consolidation 10:00 – 16:00

Summary:

This workshop will focus on the present technologies and related equipment for the excavation of piles and diaphragm walls in different soil conditions and rocks. The workshop will also pay special attention to a system allowing the excavation of piles without the use of supporting fluid for hole stability and to a system allowing pile excavation with reduction of the excavated material compared to pile diameter.

The second part of the workshop will focus on a conventional system for performing soil consolidation by combining mechanical and hydraulic energies. The workshop will come to a close with the illustration of different case studies including the restoration of the Pisa Tower.

Benefits of attending:

Learning about latest and state-of-the-art technologies in the geotechnical industry

Benchmarking in latest piling techniques and pile design

Analysing case studies on landmark projects

Workshop leader:

Federico Pagliacci, Development Vice President, SOILMEC

Federico Pagliacci graduated in Civil Engineering at the Bologna University in 1979 and joined the TREVI GROUP in 1981 as a Job-site Manager both in Italy and abroad. In 1984, he was promoted to the Trevi Project Department for the management of foundation contracts, includnig Milan and Singapore underground systems. From 1996 to 2000 he held the position of Director of the Trevi Group Research & Development Department with responsibility to coordinate civil and mechanical engineers for the development of new technologies and products. During these years, the company developed the PRETUNNEL (to execute the final structural lining prior to excavation), the CDW (continuous diaphragm wall) and the technique of low and high pressure mechanical mixing in situ. In 2000 he was appointed Soilmec Sales Director and in 2009 he was appointed Development Vice President.

He is the author and co-author of more than 30 articles presented during international conferences.
