1. What is the relevance of history in the present time?

History studies the events or happenings in the past. It is considered as the

record of how the individuals and the society in the past interact. Having a history is
relevant to us now in the present. It is useful for us to get the basis on how we’ve
come up with this things around and within us like the religion, culture, and etc.
Knowing the history can help us feel its connection to the present time which leads
us to discover how the ancient times work.
2. Describe the Filipino Society in Pre-Spanish time.

During the Pre-Spanish time, Filipinos were not yet united. Filipinos were
scattered throughout the islands with different groups or tribes and ways of living.
These tribes were free and were each governed by their leaders. The Pre-Spanish
time was a big different to the Spanish Era. It was peace before and there was no
war happening because of colonization.
3. Discuss the government system of the Filipino society in the Pre-Colonial Era.

The government system during Pre-Colonial Era was really different compared
to the Spanish time. The government before was called balangay from malay term
balanghay/hai. It was ruled by one person called the datu, rajah, or sultan which is
vested with the three important powers. The early Filipinos had written laws which
was declared by the datus and unwritten laws. It can be said that the laws of the
barangay were generally fair.

4. Explain the reason why the Spaniards came to the Philippines.

The main reason why Spanish came to the Philippines was to colonize it. As
they were successful in colonizing the Philippines, they continue their desire in
spreading their culture and beliefs to the country. They want to share their culture
and convert all the Filipinos into Christian. Although they failed because of some
active religious groups, but Christianity reigns majority all over the entire country.
Philippines was considered as a rich country which contains different resources like
the gold and other expensive resources that also let the Spanish colonize the
country.
5. Why was the Philippines easily conquered by Spain?

The Spanish conquered the Philippines for 300 years. They took advantage of
the weakness of the country and easily dominated by them. Having different tribes
and not being united are some reasons why Philippines was easily conquered by the
Spanish people. Also because of their advanced war weapons, they had advantage
on battling the Filipino people. The Spanish showed how advanced and strong they
are in terms of technologies and how to handle a war.

6. Discuss the Government structure of the Philippines during the Spanish

Colonization.

Spain established a centralized colonial government in the Philippines that was

composed of a national government and the local governments that administered
provinces, cities, towns, and municipalities. The national government maintained
peace and order, collected taxes and built schools and other public works. Even
there’s a law but still abuse of power is still present. In order to investigate the
abuses, there are branches of the government were created namely the Residencia,
the Visita, and the Royal Audiencia.

7. Describe Philippine Economy under the Spanish Rule.

There were many changes in the Filipino society during the Spanish
colonization. Spanish authorities did not show any sign of fairness towards the
Filipinos especially in the division of responsibilities in polo y servicio. Because of this
irresponsibility, Filipinos still work apart from their allotted time for work. The
Filipinos in here was having misfortune situation because of how they treat them.
The economy in this situation was just like one-sided when we say fairness
treatment.

8. How does the Spanish occupation affect and change the life of the Filipinos.

The colonization or occupation of Spaniards changed the path of the Filipinos.

The spread of Christianity throughout the country contributed for the big changes of
Filipinos lives. It changed the way Filipinos lived and how they interacted with each
other in the society. The culture and beliefs of most of the Filipinos changed and
adapted the things brought by the colonizers. In short, they had greatly influenced
the lives of the Filipinos.
9. Why are most of the Filipinos unhappy during the Spanish Regime? Explain.

Most of the Filipinos were unhappy because they were not given the freedom
to express their own opinions. Most of them were used as slaves by the higher
officials in their own country. Filipinos were also not given the opportunity to take
part in ruling the government. No one will be happy having a treatment like that
unless you’re not part of the slaves. To sum it up, Filipinos are just like puppets used
by Spaniards for their own personal interests.

10. Give a brief summary about the history of your town/city. (150 words). For 15
points.

Long time ago, there was a popular place in my town called "Bolocboloc". It
was called by that name because of its existing spring located beaneth the shoreline
at the foot of a stone in our barangay. The place is now called "Nigad", after a name
of a tree which seldom seen to grow on the shoreline. From the name Nigad, the
word "Oslob" was born due to the misunderstandings between a native couple and
two civil guards in the year 1785. While the said couple were taking a rest under the
tree and were eating their brought boiled bananas soaking it in vinegar and salt, the
guards asked them “what is the name of the place?” The couple was surprised for
they were not able to comprehend what the guards were saying. But since they were
soaking bananas with salt and vinegar, they thought the guards were asking what
they were doing, the couple replied, "Toslob", which meant soaking.
