Word Problems
1. A dance teacher is planning a dance for a show. The dancers will be in rows with the same number of dancers in
each row. Does a group of 12 dancers or a group of 14 dancers offer more possibilities?

2. You are dividing a garden into sections. You have 64 marigolds and 120 petunias. You want each section to have the
same number of each type of flower and use all the flowers. At most, how many sections can you have?

3. You are a tour guide and want to divide 90 people into the same size groups. The group size must be from 11 to 15
people. How many people should be in each group?

4. As a volunteer at a museum, you fill souvenir pouches with semiprecious stones. Each pouch has the same number
of stones, and there are no leftover stones. There is more than one stone per pouch. Is the total number of stones in
all souvenir pouches combined prime or composite? Explain.

5. A classroom in the school contains 32 desks, and another classroom contains 35 desks. Which classroom allows for
more rectangular desk arrangements if you use all the desks? Explain.

6. Find two composite numbers whose prime factors each have a sum of 18.

7. A science class with 15 girls and 12 boys is divided into groups. Each group has the same number of boys and the
same number of girls. What is the greatest number of groups that can be formed? How many boys and girls are in
each group?

8. You are making bags of school supplies for your friends. You have 12 markers, 18 pens, and 30 pencils. You want to
put the same number of each kind of supply into each bag. How many of each kind of supply will be in each bag?

9. A school is preparing fruit baskets for a local nursing home using 162 apples, 109 oranges, and 180 bananas. The
baskets are identical, and no fruit should be left over. What is the greatest number of baskets that can be made?
