Objectives: By the end of these activities SWBAT:

Activity 1:

* Identify new vocabulary words related to occupations.

Activity 2:

* Identify and pronounce numbers (21-100)

* Match countries to their nationalities.

* Practice asking and answering questions about somebody else using model language.

Activity 3:

* Practice the use of the Verb To Be in contractions, negative, questions

* Write plurals for nouns by just adding -s.

Activity 4:

* Practice asking and answering questions about themselves using model language.

Activity 5:

* Describe a neighborhood or city using There is / There are.

Warm Up / Introduction

Attendance

Copy the objectives on the board and ask questions to students about the previous class, let all the Ss
participate.

Warm up: Give each student a piece of cardboard with an occupation in it.(teacher, nurse, hairdresser, pilot,
doctor, vet, postman, receptionist, student), they have to write 3 sentences with the occupation, 2 that are
true, 1 that is a lie. Then divide the class in 2, count them off and have them raise their finger to show if they
are 1 or 2. They have to find another S with a different number. 1 st the #1s say their sentences and #2s have to
guess, then vice versa. Depending on your class size you can have several rounds for each number.

Listening

Pair interaction: First review the new vocabulary presented in the warm up. Then give students cards to get in
pairs. Then instruct them to do the lead-in Ex. 1 on page 16. Have some volunteers perform in front of the
class.

Books closed, copy ex. 3 on the board and have Ss listen and circle. Then open the book and have Ss listen a 2 nd
time and check their answers

Ss take turns and read the dialogues aloud in pairs. Then they answer the questions on Ex. 4. Pg. 17.

Repetition drills and interaction:

Ex. 6 the whole class listens to the radio and repeats several times.

Ex. 8 Ss listen and match the Countries to their Nationalities. Ss then check their answer with a partner, then
with the whole class.

Ex. 9 In pairs Ss listen and complete the exercise. Then take turns asking and Answering Questions using the
model language. For Ex 10, they will walk around the classroom practicing asking and answering questions with
other people.

Grammar Groups:

Reviewing Verb To Be & Plurals

Ss will divide into small groups (3/4). Together they will complete Exs. 11, 12, 13 & 16 on pgs 19-20.

T will walk around the classroom to monitor the Ss progress. At first only stopping when Ss ask for him/her,
then spends 2 or 3 mins per group, clarifying any doubts. (*If a group is finished before the others, you can
have them go out and help the other groups)

Group Ambassador: Each group will send out an ambassador to other groups to check their answers. Each
group member will take turns going out to other groups.

Write some sentences on the board that will help them get to know each other, not more than five. For
example, What’s your name? / nickname? / Occupation? Ss stand up in two rows facing each other. They’ll
have to talk to the person in front of them ask and answering the questions. When you clap your hands, they all
move to their left (the Ss who are first and last in the row, then change rows.) and continue doing the same
thing with the new partner.

Activity 5:

Reading / Writing / Listening

There is / There are: T: give a short explanation of the meaning of There is there are, then have Ss read and
explain how it is used. Then they practice asking questions about the classroom. Then they do Ex. 17 Pg.21.

Adjectives: T: give Ss input about adjectives and how they are used in English. and ask them to give examples.

Ss are instructed to do Ex.20 and 21 on Pg. 22. Then underline the adj. In the text. Give students more texts to

Activity 6:

Have Ss do Ex 22 about the reading. Then they copy the chart. In groups, they go to other groups and fill in the
chart. Then come back and share the information with their groups.

Role Plays: greeting and saying good bye. They listen and then prepare role play in groups. They choose a peer
from each group to perform in front of the whole class.

Wrap Up

Go over the day, by asking different Comprehension Checking Questions touching on everything seen in class
today.

Give each student a piece of paper, they write a comment about the class and give it to the teacher.

HW: Ss have to complete the Exs. 1-9, pgs 31-33 Workbook.
