Modern spinning mill in Vietnam
Economical Open-end Spinning
In business since 1960
Textiles have a long history in Nam Dinh.
SonNam started production in 1960 as a
state-owned company in Nam Dinh province.
Initially there was a dyeing and finishing
plant, followed by weaving and towel weaving
facilities. In 2005 SonNam became a joint
stock company. It operates 200 weaving
looms and 700 handicraft looms, mainly for
terry towel. In addition to this capacity, the
company purchases some 3000 tons/year of
towels made in small village mills (contract
manufacturers).
In 2003 SonNam was awarded the Vietnamese
Gold Medal by the Province of Nam Dinh for
the high quality of its towelling fabric. The
towels are made up and packaged in the com-
pany’s own sewing facility.
With all this production capacity SonNam
achieves an annual turnover of around
10 million USD, 70% of which is for export,
mainly to Japan, Korea and even Italy.
Exports to the USA are traded via China.

On the basis of these detailed calculations, 310 days/year
including such aspects as Vietnamese wage
levels, interest costs, capital costs, etc., the
most economical solution was to invest in
semi-automatic rotor spinning machines
BT 923 while shortening the carding process.

reducing space requirements and handling

Flexibility starts in fiber preparation
Short and effective
Raw material
The raw cotton used in Vietnam is in most
cases imported. Gentle and fiber-saving raw
material preparation is therefore essential to
reduce high raw material costs.
Short yet effective blowroom
The blend of the different raw material is al-
ready performed on the UNIfloc A 11. The wide
take off unit gently processes off the small tufts
and generates a first blending stage.
Effectively precleaned in the UNIclean, con-
trolled by the VARIOset which ensures a gentle
end effective removal of the coarse trash, fibre
fragments and dust, the cotton blend is fed
into the UNImix. There the 3-point blending
allows a homogenous blending in only one
single machine.
As a last cleaning stage the UNIflex fine clean-
ing machine, also equipped with VARIOset,
extracts the fine trash and dust ensuring opti-
mal preparation for the card.

nance and setting times are possible thanks
to the modular design of the C 60 card. The
cards are equipped with the integrated grind-
ing system IGS classic, which guarantees
higher quality and productivity due to the
extended lifetime of the card clothing.
Drawframe
Yarn quality is mainly influenced by drafting
quality. The autoleveller drawframe passage
after the card further improves sliver quality.
The regulation of sliver quality on the RSB-D 35
autoleveler drawframe is unmatched. The draw-
frame is easy to operate and maintain thanks to
central roller settings, centralized lubrication
and central suction.

Flexible in every respect
High quality rotor yarns produced on BT 923
Guaranteed yarn quality
SonNam wanted to have a guaranteed yarn
quality for their weaving mill. With their own
spinning mill they are now able to optimize the
yarn quality features to their production
processes in weaving and finishing.
SonNam decided for the new semi-automatic
rotor spinning machine BT 923. The com-
pletely new machine concept and design of the
BT 923 focuses on solutions for increased
productivity, ergonomic and operator-friendly
design and systems for improving and moni-
toring the yarn quality.
BT machines are well known for a high spin-
ning stability and thus high machine effi-
ciency. It is even when moderate raw material
such as regenerated fibers are processed. This
spinning stability and the yarn quality values
have even been improved with the newly
designed C 120 spin box of the BT 923. The
machine also uses a proven concept of elec-
tronically controlled piecing AMIspin®. In
combination with Qtop® and underpressure
loop compensation, the piecer and package
quality can reach the automated machine level.
With AMIspin® the quality of the piecer is
always the same and not influenced by the
operator’s skills. The yarn and piecer quality
is 100% monitored with the integrated, optical
IQplus® yarn clearer.
