Fundamental laws and regulations are imposed in a society wherein citizens must abide by
a specific set of rules. Communicating with our fellow human being in a societal aspect leads to
harmony and prosperity when members cooperate with each other and tasks are delegated
clearly. Mishra and Mishra (2009) noted that collaboration and interaction can only happen when
better communication prevails among its people. Moreover, Aristotle’s Model of
Communication stresses the importance of the speaker, the leader or mayor in this aspect, as
someone who oversees and has authority over his audience. Issues must be properly addressed
by the board of directors of the society, executive orders must be created and disseminated
within the members of the community. If the leader does not associate and communicate with his
people, there is a great probability of chaos and disruption. Therefore communication plays a
crucial role in achieving long-term societal goals and creating a strong rapport with other
members that will allow society to thrive (Kornienko, Naumenko, & Suvurova, 2016).
Furthermore, local businesses and trades help nourish a society by providing job
opportunities for individuals thus decreasing the unemployment rate in a community (Ahlstrom,
2017). With the emergence of the internet and digital technology, local government officials
were able to communicate conveniently to different manufacturers to help promote local goods
and products. Social media platforms also expanded the growth of locally made products with
just a single click. These internet and digital technologies made it easier for people to sell and
buy goods without leaving their homes. It also provided easier access for companies to provide
job opportunities to people through an online application. However, connectivity difficulties
interfering with the response or feedback between communicators became one of the major
concerns in this technological boom. Nevertheless, these technologies help promote the tourism
and economy of a society making communication easier with just one click of a button.
Lastly, the electrical engine and electronic media proved their importance in today’s
pandemic crisis. Being on lockdown for months, people solely rely on using their phones in
communicating with their loved ones, promoting businesses, and disseminating various health
protocols through social media platforms. It is easier to interact, exchange, and express different
perspectives into a wide array of audiences without having the need to do all of these personally.
However, Hanke (2018) argued that utilizing social media “lessens the quality of
communication” which hinders our ability to make deeper and more meaningful interactions that
can only be achieved when we converse personally. Moreover, computer-mediated interaction
diminishes our “communication etiquette” in clearly conveying messages as we tend to limit our
answers into one or two sentences, frequently using acronyms or abbreviations, and forgetting
the use of proper grammar. Generally, technologies provide humans endless ways to
communicate with other people but we still have to continually challenge our ability to
communicate meaningfully even we are just restricted to the virtual world (Hanke, 2018).
