Becoming a Fruit Tree – Goodness

God’s goodness is something special. It is different than all the other fruit of
the Spirit. This is because We have tactile contact with the Goodness of God in a way
that we have not with all the other fruit. Psalms 34:8 says it this way;
Psalm 34:8 NASB: O taste and see that the LORD is good; how blessed is
the man who takes refuge in Him!
You are called to experience the Goodness of God in a manifest, tangible way.
Taste his goodness, when you have fruit, it is only good if you taste it. It might look
good if it sits on a table, but unless you actually eat it, it will wither and die. Fruit
grows into its ripeness and then you eat it.
Oh taste and see that the Lord is good. Furthermore, Moses was able to
experience the goodness of God in a way that was different than the rest of the
people. Exodus 33:19 NASB: And He said, "I Myself will make all My goodness pass
before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be
gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show
compassion."
The Lord’s goodness was linked with his compassion, but also his presence. It
is a physical, tangible experience. We should be striving to see the Goodness of the
Lord before us.
Psalm 23:6 NASB: “Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all
the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
Goodness is something that we should be marked with for all the days of our
lives. If you read the full Psalm you see that this is a side effect of a yielded life.
Psalm 23 begins with David proclaiming that The Lord is his Shepherd. When the
Lord is your shepherd, there are benefits. One such benefit is verse six; the presence
of His Goodness as a staple of your life. Psalm 31 furthers this point. Psalm 31:19
NASB: “How great is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear
You, Which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You, Before the sons of
men!” He stores up Goodness for the people who are his; for the people who live a
yielded life and give themselves over to him in his fullness.
We should always be able to remember the Goodness of God. Psalm 145:7
NASB: “They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodness And will
shout joyfully of Your righteousness.” In the context of This Psalm, David is
remembering all the characteristics of God. Isaiah continues in this theme:
 Isaiah 63:7 NASB: “I shall make mention of the lovingkindnesses of the
LORD, the praises of the LORD, According to all that the LORD has granted us, And
the great goodness toward the house of Israel, Which He has granted them
according to His compassion And according to the abundance of His
lovingkindnesses.” Remember his Goodness. God has done great things for you, and
those memories are faith builders.
