1 Introduction
As a Year 11 student, I am planning on obtaining my provisional car
licence to gain employment in the fast food industry.
The aim of this report is to compare fast food outlets KFC and
McDonalds, in terms of nutrition, economic and popularity. After
obtaining my licence my parents employed me to agree on a loan of
$10,000 to which simple interest (I=Prt) will be used to calculate the
interest charge of the loan. The report will also include:
 The number of times fast food is eaten per year
 An indicative cost each time a fast food restaurant is visited
 Breakdown of the daily nutritional intake in selected meal
options
 Any meal options to be completely avoided due to excessive
calories
I also wish to investigate if I can afford to own and operate a car in
Queensland simply by avoiding the purchase of fast food. This will all
be calculated using spreadsheets and graphs from Excel.

2 Considerations
2.1 Observations
 Fast food eaten on average, 10 times a year.
 Cost each time KFC is visited $10.95. Cost each time McDonalds
is visited $8.30.
 KFC meal 4,083 (kJ). McDonalds meal 1,297 (kJ). Compared to
daily in take of 8,700 (kJ).
 2008 Kia Rio JB MY07 EX Silver 4 Speed Automatic Sedan -
$5,990
 Terms of loan. 5-year loan of $10,000. Payed back monthly.
3.97 interest rate.
2.2 Assumptions
 An average adult person requires 8,700 kilojoules a day
 The length of a standard car loan in 5 years
 If loans are required than only simple interest will be
considered any repayments

6 Conclusion
This report has considered at least two popular fast food franchises,
KFC & McDonalds in terms of nutrition, cost and popularity. The
meals considered were…
– KFC: Chicken Tenders Box (most popular) and Honey Mustard
Shaker Salad (healthiest)
– McDonalds: Cheeseburger (most popular) and Ranch Snack
Wrap (healthiest)
It has also looked at the costs of owning and operating a car in
Queensland, total of the car, registration and insurance came to a
total of $7,945.1. The finding of fast food total over a 5-year span,
unfortunately, wasn’t enough to buy the car and operate. Despite
receiving a $10,000 loan.
