Sample memorandum

To: Computer Programming Division

From: Vice President Lumbergh

Date: February 19, 2016

Subject: Attaching cover sheets to TPS reports

This is to remind the division that, starting today, we are now filing all Testing Procedure Specification
(TPS) reports with new cover sheets. The reason for this change is simple. In addition to a new format,
the cover sheets provide a summary of the report as well as the updated legal copy. The new cover
sheets also include Initech's new logo. Though this change may initially seem like a headache and an
extra step, it is necessary to include the new cover sheets due to their updated information. Failing to do
so will result in a confusing and inaccurate product delivered to our customers. Please be sure to follow
this new procedure.

Dear diary,

stay at home for protection against this bacteria called corona virus-19. It so hard to handle all these

so that everybody will enjoy life not like a prison. I felt so terrible now because when I woke up in the
morning I felt like nothing change at all which is so annoying to lived life like this. I keep praying every
night for freedom against this pandemic and I’m hoping that I will woke up tomorrow and witness the
success of our country.

 Explain in three sentences why creative writing is considered an imaginative writing.

Creative writing is considered as an imaginative writing because it has the characteristic of imaginative
writing such as the clarity, emotions, form, meaning and connection and the language. It has also the
form of imaginative writing such as the Short stories, Poems, Letters to self (future/past), Letters to
others, Scripts, Diary entries, Interior monologues, Prologues/Epilogues, Speech, Autobiography and
etc. it also considered as an imaginative writing for it clearly shown the following: the topic, tone,
structure and features, message, purpose, audience and language.

 The following are the different method to write short paragraphs or short stories creatively:

A short story is a slice of life. As such, you should narrow the time frame and geographical location of
the piece. One plot, two or three characters and no more than two locations (one would be better)
should fit into a short story. If this is too tight a fit perhaps you should be writing a novella or a novel.

Start your piece as close to the turning point or climax of the story as possible. Most writers take a
paragraph or so to find their feet. On a second reading they will delete the first paragraph as
unnecessary exposition or padding. Your first sentence is crucial; it should be filled with energy, intrigue
and forward momentum. The reader should be stopped in their tracks and not be able to turn away until
they’ve read the whole thing. The first sentence should raise questions that need to be answered

Every short story should have an opening that is developed in the middle to build tension which reaches
its climax towards the end, after which there is a rapid conclusion. For those of you who have studied
any dramatic or literary theory you will recognise this progression as typical Aristotlean Three Act
Structure. In a short story you should not spend too much time in the ‘first act’ where development,
setting and exposition take place, and should start your narrative as close to the inciting incident (aka
point of change, first turning point or initial crisis) as possible. The inciting incident is the event which
upsets the apple cart of the characters’ ordinary world and compels them to act in a certain way in order
to bring balance or closure to their disrupted environment. In the Red Dress it is the school dance which
the narrator fears will bring humiliation. She then tries to fake illness in order to get out of it, then, when
this fails, tries to remain as invisible as possible at the dance

Your story should follow that arc by allowing your character to face obstacles, setbacks and minor
victories on the way towards reaching the dramatic climax and bringing resolution

Beginning writers always get told ‘write what you know’, but it’s good advice.
Use settings, characters, background, and language that you’re already familiar with and create new
stories from the world that you already know. This is like using research you’ve already done. And
remember, your background, what you bring to the act of writing, is as valid as what anyone else can
bring.

Use your imagination to create new situations, new characters, new relationships, even new worlds.
Choose to write about a different period in history, or a place that you’re not familiar with. Where your
imagination needs help, fill in the gaps with research. The best thing about being a creative writer
is creating.

Writers love reading. Make yourself familiar with the published landscape of writing in your chosen
field, whether it’s modern poetry, literary fiction, thrillers, short stories, or fantasy. Nothing encourages
good writing like reading good writing.

Nobody is forced to read your novel or short story, so it’s important to hook readers right away. Your
opening sentence or paragraph should encourage them to continue, perhaps by making them laugh, or
exciting their curiosity, or just making them want to find out what happens next.

We find out about the people we meet through what they say to us, how they say it, their choice of
words, their accents, their verbal habits. Readers should be able to do the same with fictional
characters. People on the page really start to live when they start exchanging dialogue.

Too much description, too many adjectives and adverbs, can slow up your narrative and cause your
readers to lose interest. Where possible, it’s better to show you readers what a person,
the atmosphere in the room, the relationship between your characters is like – show, that is, by what
they say, how they interact, what they do. It’s more effective than telling the reader through wordy piles
of information.

Try to get your first draft as near perfect as possible. Few writers manage this kind of quality the first
time but no one ever wrote great literature by aiming low. On the contrary, aim for the best and do your
best from the very start.

If you don’t get it right first time, you can do what most writers do – polish and perfect through
the editing process. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that editing is the same as proofreading; it’s
about much more than correcting errors. Rather, editing involves carefully going through your work to
see what to leave out, what to change, finding out what you have to do to improve your writing, make it
sharper, tidier, better.

Many aspiring writers claim they simply don’t have the time to make the most of their ideas. Yet, if you
analyse a typical day, there are always those intervals – using public transport, waiting for a friend, time
spent in the waiting room of the doctor or dentist – when it’s possible to pull out a writing pad, a laptop,
a tablet and just write. Identify your opportunities – five minutes is enough to get a few sentences down
– and use them.

Writing short stories means beginning as close to the climax as possible — everything else is a

distraction. A novel can take a more meandering path, but should still start with a scene that sets the
tone for the whole book.

A short story conserves characters and scenes, typically by focusing on just one conflict, and drives
towards a sudden, unexpected revelation. Go easy on the exposition and talky backstory — your reader
doesn’t need to know everything that you know about your characters.
