The McKendree Vine

Volume 22 Number 1 January 2011

Kingdom Focused People!

We begin this New Year w ith a focus toward honoring God!
Honor is a word that God often speaks to us through the Holy Bible.
During the month of January, we journeyed through the gospels of
how God, through Jesus, calls us to honor God, through
relationships, our bodies, time and the words we speak. Although
this life hands us difficulties and challenges, we are given a greater
gift, God’s Holy Spirit to lead, guide and protect our minds and hearts to go where
God is. Jesus honored God in all he did! This year, we ask all of our McKendree
family to pray and lead a LIFE of HONOR and then wait on God to say, “Well done,
good and faithful (honorable) servant!”

In February, we are introducing a provocative sermon series, “Fear No Evil.” We will

focus on the biblical narratives where evil is present, but the grace of God, through
Jesus Christ, is more powerful and comes to eliminate evil’s rule in our lives. Fear
can cripple and drain us spiritually and physically, but Jesus presents an alternative,
the Holy Spirit, one who comes to help deliver us. From what we see, hear and
speak, this evil can consume and distract us from our missional mandate, “to go
therefore and make disciples of Jesus Christ.” God’s faithfulness offers us the
opportunity to be more focused by becoming a stronger, more relevant follower of
Jesus Christ. Join us each Sunday in February to witness how God desires that all
humanity be “delivered from evil.”

Our mission is biblical and clear, “Glorifying God by making disciples of Jesus
Christ for the transformation of the world!”

Mission Team News
Did you know that two of our Church members have participated in hands on mission projects? Steve
Kohl spent a week in Cuba with a Volunteers in Mission Team (VIM). Harold Edwards spent a week at
the Sager Brown Resource Center for the UMCOR in Louisiana, and plans to go back for another week
leaving on February 4th. Keep him in your prayers. We will be planning a time to hear of the
experiences of both of these missioners.
The Community Care Fellowship and McKendree's Mission Team wishes to thank you for your
donations of the paper towels and the laundry detergents. We had 55 rolls of paper towels and 4
bottles of detergents.
Also, thanks to all who have already taken part in the Room In the Inn ministry-- those who have
prepared the dinners, brought sack lunches and items for breakfast, the innkeepers and the bus
drivers. There are still opportunities for you to be a part of this important mission and to receive a rich
blessing as you serve, eat, and visit with our guests. Sign up on the board in the back hallway. Ask
one or more friends to assist you with a meal.
